Man of Conviction Lyrics

God blessed is a man of conviction
When there's evidence enough to convict him
Should we stand by the side of the victim?
And find strength enough to forgive him
Hopefully nobody saw him
Hopefully nobody saw him
Needs to be justified by the ending
He's a sinner or saint for defending

The bastard passed out in his breathing
Pour salt in the wounds of the needy
And the blood from the cut that is sealing
And you gasp in the air were youre breathing
Hopefully nobody saw him
Hopefully nobody saw him
Needs to be justified by the ending
He's a sinner or saint for defending

Our hero is gone

God blessed is a man of conviction
When there's evidence enough to convict him
Should we stand by the side of the victim?
And find strength enough to forgive him
The bastard passed out in his breathing
Pour salt in the wounds of the needy
And the blood from the cut that is sealing
And you gasp in the air were youre breathing
Hopefully nobody saw him
Hopefully nobody saw him
Needs to be justified by the ending
He's a sinner or saint for defending

nothing? this song seems very personal, like someone the band knew personally was an innocent victim.. any other thoughts?

This song is probably my favorite on The Get Up Kid's latest album Guilt Show. However, I am having trouble understanding the true meaning of this song. It definitly needs more input from people who listen to the album/song. This whole album seems to be about government and history which is pretty cool in my mind. Like the quote from this song "Needs to be justified by the ending " can be going against Machiavelli's reasonings in The Prince, where the means don't have to justify the ending. Interesting.

Is it possible to clean up these lyrics a bit? They are kinda off in accuracy.

having relistened to the song a few times i think it could also be political like the rest of the album.

This song is definately about Bush and how he went to war on a lie (God blessed is a man of conviction, where theres evidence enough to convict him) its sayin his able to keep saying he did something for the right cause even though everyone knows it was wrong. "He's a sinner or saint for defending" is about invading Iraq may have been a good thing in that it got rid of Saddam or wotever, but he went on a lie. Please feel free to correct me.

the lyrics are definitely off, should be

God bless here's a man of conviction With evidence enough to convict him so he stands by the side of the victim has strength enough to forgive him

and it isn't "needs to be justified by the ending," it's "The means justified by the ending"

The meaning of this song is simple. Its direct purpose is to emphasize the subjetivity of good and evil and further explain that we are all men and women of conviction, it just depends on the discretion of others. One of the most important lines that was miswritten is "He's a sinner AND saint for defending" Obviously if we are all sinners and saints there is need need for a the hero archetype. This song is the first step on an album that is completely representative of the mystics journey.
