The Heart And The Shape Lyrics
Just went through your eyes,
and the battle was fine.
Couldn't stand to see you streaming.
Now I realize that I might have been
part of the reason for your frowning.
And so I grey the heart and the shape.
That look that you gave, staring.
At empty help me back to awake.
And so I grey the heart and the shape.
Now the bottle plays a little factor.
Not the way I used to be, thankfully.
I was disguising a different matter.
Now I engage in everything, infinity...
Help me back to awake.
Help me back to awake.
There were sentences with no direction,
those are pieces that I put away.
There is sadness in the reflection,
one long look is all that it takes.
and the battle was fine.
Couldn't stand to see you streaming.
Now I realize that I might have been
part of the reason for your frowning.
That look that you gave, staring.
At empty help me back to awake.
And so I grey the heart and the shape.
Not the way I used to be, thankfully.
I was disguising a different matter.
Now I engage in everything, infinity...
Help me back to awake.
There were sentences with no direction,
those are pieces that I put away.
There is sadness in the reflection,
one long look is all that it takes.

This song is about a drinking problem that Brock, the singer, used to have. It's about looking back at the problem, and how he is glad he's gotten over it.
yeah maybe, but to me it can be about anything that you wish you hadn't had a hand in. drugs or just selfishness but i like how there seems to be hope for redemption
Yep definetly with the whole alcohol addiction thing. Great song. I think that it also talks about others - depression, smoking and alcohol
On the first paragraph..eyes are like the window to the soul.. streaming might have described the part where the eyes are streaming with tears.. so he meant that he couldn't stand himself crying. Maybe it's depression
I think that when he taks about 'greying' the heart, maybe he's talking about smoking and how the lungs would fill up with tar and other shit from the chemicals and how disgusting and harmful it is to the body. Or maybe it's about depression. And kinda like the last part too
Yeah I think it talks about trying to get out of depression..through alcohol
I see somebody trying to get out of depression. i love this song.
very good song. One of this bands best.
Hm. I always thought there was another person involved. Deffinitely has to do with a past drinking problem... but there still seems to be more to it.
I agree with cloudunder. Maybe he's had a drink problem and connected to that he has killed someone or seriously hurt someone and he is looking back on it horrified.
ruijvokfph. This song made me fall inlove with this band.
"Just went through your eyes, and the battle was fine. Couldn't stand to see you streaming. Now I realize that I might have been part of the reason for your frowning."
Brock says that he sees tears in the eyes of his partner. And he realises that he is part of the reason for her sadness.
"Now the bottle plays a little factor. Not the way I used to be, thankfully. I was disguising a different matter. Now I engage in everything, infinity..."
Here he talks about a drinking problem and says that he regrets that he feels everything so strongly: "Now I engage in everything"
"Help me back to awake. Help me back to awake. There were sentences with no direction, those are pieces that I put away. There is sadness in the reflection, one long look is all that it takes."
This shows that the previously mentioned events are now part of the past. Looking back at them, he regrets them deeply, but he knows that it is time to move on; to put those pieces away and move on.
"And so I grey the heart and the shape. That look that you gave, staring. At empty help me back to awake. And so I grey the heart and the shape."
Making your heart grey in this sense means that you make your heart stronger. We are all confronted with death and tragedy in our lives and we all have trouble dealing with it. And that's why Brock wishes to grey the heart and the shape.
Immense!
