Black Dresses Lyrics

In muddy grass we stand side by side
with our knuckles interlocked
Black dresses flood the cemetery
in this cliche tragedy

Just do as you're instructed and....
Take this razor and cut your palms
I'll do the same until a river of crimson begins to flow
Now drip your ruby red over the casket
A funeral for my once loved youth

My secret is fatally gorgeous
I'd die for you
But in this Bonnie and Clyde kind of romance
tell me what would you do?
My secret is fatally gorgeous
I'd die for you
But when your precious life is at stake
tell me would you die for me too?

The quivering liquids in your stomach
will eat away at the bad habits that have made you
a real character in the story of your now distant life
Goodnight and goodbye, quickly

In gentle greens we stand side by side
with your head buried in my chest
Black veils send me shivering
The fear that part of me is dying

Just do as you're instructed and....
Take this razor and cut your palms
I'll do the same until a river of crimson begins to flow
Now drip your ruby red over the casket
A funeral for my once loved youth

My secret is fatally gorgeous
I'd die for you
But in this Bonnie and Clyde kind of romance
tell me what would you do?
My secret is fatally gorgeous
I'd die for you
But when your precious life is at stake
tell me would you die for me too?

The quivering liquids in your stomach
will eat away at the bad habits that have made you
a real character in the story of your now distant life
Goodnight and goodbye, quickly, quickly

Goodbyes are said and roses thrown
And the crowd starts to weep
But the irony of the story is when I fell to my knees
and began clawing at the dirt in front of the tombstone
of my bashful childhood
With you by my side, you're screaming at the
top of your lungs, "let it go"
And I'm screaming at the top of my lungs
"The ceremony was not proper, there was not enough people,
and who picked the music?
Those melodies almost made me physically sick"

My secret is fatally gorgeous
I'd die for you
But in this Bonnie and Clyde kind of romance
tell me what would you do?
My secret is fatally gorgeous
I'd die for you
But when your precious life is at stake
tell me would you die for me too?

The quivering liquids in your stomach
will eat away at the bad habits that have made you
a real character in the story of your now distant life
Goodnight and goodbye, quickly
Goodnight and goodbye, quickly

I havent slept in about 3 days, and i have been watching weird creppy old horror movies, so that is why my opinion is so warped tonight. The guy was having an affair, so him and the 'other' girl killed his girlfriend? and thats what the funeral was about? (my secret is fatally gorgeous) i dunno... just adding another viewpoint. please shoot it down because it doesnt reallhy make sense and i hope its not true.

OH and what was the Bonnie and Clyde romance? (sorry i know i'm stupid and out of the loop!)

i dont think its about someone dying, becuz u wouldnt say "would youdie for me too" if their already dead. i think he lost his childhood and wants it back and his girl or friend or whoever is sayin he needs to let it go and hes complaining about how the ceremony and the people and the music was all wrong.

Just something to think about... ok so i'm thinking, there is thing guy and a girl... she wants him to have sex but he really doesn't want to... but he's a guy so he does it anyway. "just do as you're instructed" -kinda like her talking "take this razor" it's like her guiding him through it. The casket is his virginity. "A funeral for my once loved youth" -he's not a virgin anymore...that whole i'd die for you thing is what he's thinking while they are having sex. The chorus starting with "the quivering liquids..." is how his is strarting to regret it because he is like oh man "goodnight and goodbye quickly". "i fear that part of me is dying " he has lost his youth because of what has happened...the next section where "you're screaming at the top of your lungs 'let it go' " is her telling him to get over it. "this music makes me physically sick" and the lines like that make it seem like this isn't the way he wanted to lose his virginity. hopefully that makes sense to you...

ok...i didn't get losing his virginity out of any part of this song.

i think it's just talking about being with this girl that means so much to him that he would die for her, and to lose her would be suicidal for him.

he has grown up and now he knows real pain and he can never go back to his childhood when everything was easy and fun.

he is saying that it all happened to fast and that he wishes he could have been more aware that things were going to be that complicated

this is a beautiful song....it's sounds so depressing, but it's so depressing that it makes you like it..i listened to it on repeat while i was going to sleep the first time i heard it......pretty.

so i seriosuly think that all the meanings said are possible and such, but i just think you guys are looking too far into it.

im pretty sure its just about a girlfrind&&boyfriend who are in a relationship which is forbidden (kinda like romeo and juliet) therefore they are depressed, her more so than him, so they make a pact to commit a double suicide. he doesnt seem all that keen, but it's what she wants, so he just toughens up and 'instructs' her. as said in: "Just do as you're instructed and.... Take this razor and cut your palms I'll do the same until a river of crimson begins to flow"

for some reason the guy doesnt end up doing it. either he pussies out, or is caught before he dies.

"My secret is fatally gorgeous I'd die for you " the secret being their forbidden lvoe, and how if she was to kill herself, he would kill himself self aswell because he couldnt live without her.

"In muddy grass we stand side by side with our knuckles interlocked Black dresses flood the cemetery in this cliche tragedy" im pretty sure they're about to kill themselves, and he's just picturing the funeral and stuff.

"But in this Bonnie and Clyde kind of romance tell me what would you do? " first off, to set the record straight. bonnie and clyde were a couple somewhere around the 1920s or 30s. they were both outlaws. there's a story in between, but pretty much in the end they were shot. and btw they were inlove, and in the end died for eachother. so i think its referring to the guy and girl in the song as if to say they know what they're doing is wrong (bonnie and clyde stealing and guy and girl being together), so they ended up wishing to die for eachother, both purely because of the forbidden love.

and the whole him clawing at the ground thing was just when he was at her funeral, and he begins to finally let out all his emotions, and has a total breakdown.

so anyway. i better shutup now. all in all, mad arse song though. love it :)

This song is just amazing. The lyrics are so incredible and Nick puts so much emotion into his music. I think in this song he is talking about being physically involved with someone for the first time. At least that is what I take out of it!

Cover art for Black Dresses lyrics by Spill Canvas, The

Yeah, I never thought of it that way, but that makes sense. Like his childhood is gone now because he's made the transition to adulthood by being 'physically involved', and he doesn't know if he wanted to let go of it (But the irony of the story is when I fell to my knees and began clawing at the dirt in front of the tombstone).. hm.. that never even occured to me. I feel so enlightened.

And how uncerimonious the transition.. haha, sorry, had to add that.

this song makes me think about how it feels when your love for another is unrequited.

My secret is fatally gorgeous

I'd die for you...

But when your precious life is at stake,

would you die for me too?

You feel unwanted resentment because you can't make them feel the same, yet it makes your love for them grow even more, because you can't have them...

This song is by far the best on the CD... I love it
