I actually heard an interveiw on 93.5 with the lead singer of Godsmack as to the meaning of this song. Apparently they were in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and he went to a Voo Doo fortune teller who told him he had lived a previous life in New Orleans......I dont exactly see how some of the lyrics match, but for the moreover part It makes sense
He was actually supposedly killed in New Orelans in a previous life and used to get sick every time he went there until the psychic helped him. "My fears come alive in this place where I onced died." Wow...who knew that was supposed to be taken literally...

That makes a lot of sense. I know that was probably something I should take literally just because of the way the music flows with the lyrics. I believe in reincarnation so maybe it's just me. I think the singer would be a really interesting guy to meet.
