Drugstore Jesus Lyrics
Take the blame for saving lives
You've got the sunset in your eyes
And you've got the glory on your mind
Your good intentions are hard to find
You're a drugstore jesus
The miracle is gone
You're a drugstore jesus
A saint for everyone
You've thrown your soul away
All your gold turns to dust
And all your masses lose your trust
This grand illusion, this planned confusion
This substitution is tainted love
You're a drugstore jesus
The miracle is gone
You're a drugstore jesus
A saint for everyone
You've thrown your soul away
In a world turned upside down
Can the truth be turned around?
In a world turned upside down
Can the truth be turned around?
You're drugstore jesus
The miracle is gone
You're drugstore jesus
A saint for everyone
But the world goes on
You've got the sunset in your eyes
Your good intentions are hard to find
The miracle is gone
You're a drugstore jesus
A saint for everyone
You've thrown your soul away
And all your masses lose your trust
This substitution is tainted love
The miracle is gone
You're a drugstore jesus
A saint for everyone
You've thrown your soul away
Can the truth be turned around?
In a world turned upside down
Can the truth be turned around?
The miracle is gone
You're drugstore jesus
A saint for everyone
But the world goes on

Ok I have a slightly differnt intepretation of this song: I think it's about "quick-fix" Christinas. Aka the Christians who think that there's just a simple cure to everything, and they only help people in order to stand on a pdedestal and go "oh look at me and the good I'm doing for mankind, and they don't give acrap aobut the actual person who's suffering.

Reading the lyrics, it reminds me of a conversation a friend of mine and I had - she's a pharmacist, and disgusted at how many of the people that come in there are insane about how they need their drugs right then and there!
Seems to me the song is about how we tend to drug our people up, so they feel 'good'
what else can this mean but the most humbling demeanor Jesus did to save mankind and that obviously is the yet the greatest paradox:'to live, you die on the cross'. i might sound preachy but guess what, 'drugstore' in this context means Jesus is the healer of any kind of sickness may it be physiological or spiritual, it doesnt matter. He is God
listening to this song 7 years ago I was fascinated by it, but I couldn't quite hammer out what it meant. To some, the meaning is apparently obvious. and to others a little harder to gather. I found my camp with the latter. I read an article and it's meanign made the most sense. It said, "drug store Jesus is about a leader who uses religion to not only give people what they want to hear, but also takes something in exchange for what he gives." So, said the artilce, TBN preachers or prosperity doctrine promoters more then likely would fall into this camp of turning christ into a drugstore and sacrificing the miracle. whatever the meaning it's a sobering song.
The meaning is clearly stated in Matthew 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth. In other words, when you do great things don't look for glory, or gloat in self praise.
