The Dream Lyrics
Her fabulous invention, What strange imagination shown.
Her gloroius intentions, a sea of doubt beneath her own.
It said "You're not the first to dream this, little girl.
You know it's never happened once in this world.
It never crossed my mind that one so young could hope to find a power greater then my own."
She never did what they told her to,
and they'll never see her dream come true.
The edge of revelation, believing all the stories told.
A final moment taken before this story's end unfolds.
Now she flies over clouds in twilight skies.
Nothing to bind her, no one will find her this high.
Far above the rainy weather,
All plans have come together,
and for the first time she feels just fine.
Her gloroius intentions, a sea of doubt beneath her own.
It said "You're not the first to dream this, little girl.
You know it's never happened once in this world.
It never crossed my mind that one so young could hope to find a power greater then my own."
and they'll never see her dream come true.
The edge of revelation, believing all the stories told.
A final moment taken before this story's end unfolds.
Nothing to bind her, no one will find her this high.
Far above the rainy weather,
All plans have come together,
and for the first time she feels just fine.

I know this is probably a love song, but it brought to mind images of Amelia Earhart showing the world that a woman could indeed fly as well as a man.
Chibi wrote most of the lyrics to this, it's about one of her favorite books, but I don't remember what it's called.
It's not nearly as fucked up as some of the posts on this page seem to suggest.
That book is Imajica. The band's original name was named after the book (Imajica) but, for legal reasons they had to change their name. And thats how they came to be The Birthday Massacre! :D Imajica is a great book btw...Its by Clive Barker if youd like to read it.

@rabbithowl The book is "Mail-Order Wings" by Beatrice Gormley. I remember her talking about it a long time ago... It's really quite good, her lyrics in relation to the story.

It is NOT Imagica...that's a different story entirely.

This song always makes me think of Alice in Wonderland, only, a different version. As if Alice came to wonderland seeking to overthrow the queen of hearts. lol, it's TOTALLY off, but, I like this idea.
It's a very nice idea. This song does seem close to Alice in Wonderland, in some ways...

This song reminds me of my sister. All she wants is to be an actor and everyone in my family goes on bout she'll never get a part in anything cox so many other want the same thing. Just the other week she gotthe lead role in a musical that her school will be presenting infront of a huge audience at a theatre. I'm so proud of her I gave her this songto listen to.
So I think it's about having a dream. A big dream for yourself. And everyone telling you you won't get it or do it. But then proving them wrong. And showing them anything is possible.
I'm not the only one who gets a sense of tragedy from this song. I always get this feeling the girl died whenever I listen to it.

"A final moment taken before this story's end unfolds." The story's end is death... Or what occurs after death.

"Now she flies over clouds in twilight skies. Nothing to bind her, no one will find her this high" She died. Nothing tying her down to the Earth now. No one...
"Now she flies over clouds in twilight skies. Nothing to bind her, no one will find her this high" She died. Nothing tying her down to the Earth now. No one to come looking for her in this heavenly-sounding afterlife.
"Far above the rainy weather" The weather referring to either peoples' doubts in her or in this case their grief that she's gone.
"All plans have come together, and for the first time she feels just fine." Reading this, there's such a sense of finality. A happy ending, yes. She finally got what she was looking for, but at the same time there's this ominous feeling that she met her fate, and even though it's a good fate, it's a happy fate, it's a great fate... It's sad.
Because the only way the girl could achieve the impossible was by dying.
If this song is indeed about a book Chibi likes, I would love to know what book.
Hmm..I say this song would have to be about a girl who has a dream of building a device made for flying. so she tells other people what they think (of they just find out) they become over whelmed and obviously doubt her "you're not the first to dream this, little girl. You know it's never happened once in this world" pt.2 She ignores all of the nay-sayers, and does WHAT SHE BELIEVES and succeeds in building her dreamed creation "She never did what they told her to" and now she's flying high up in the clouds away from all the doubters "Now she flies over clouds in twilight skies. Nothing to bind her, no one will find her this high. Far above the rainy weather, All plans have come together, and for the first time she feels just fine. "
this is just what was painted in my head at the time, could be right, could be wrong, however, this song will never cease to capture my imagination.
I think the end of this song could be about suicide, no matter how 'emo' it sounds. "A final moment taken before this story's end unfolds", meaning, everything is coming to an end, obviously, then it leads on to "Now she flies over clouds in twilight skies, nothing to bind her, no one will find her this high. Far above the rainy weather, all plans have come together, and for the first time she feels just fine". It kind of resembles peace, freedom, like she is entering heaven. In the first verse, you can see she has made this invention, then in the second verse "They'll never see her dream come true". What if this creation she has made, has been turned down and she now feels like a failure, resulting to her death. Think about it. It may not make sense, but ya'know.
That's what I thought too! That when she was alive she was sad and then she took her own life and reached eternal bliss. :)

Makes plenty of sense actually, I'm pretty sure that's the main interpretation. But as well as with most of their songs, it's vaporous enough for one to project many other stuff on it...

this song is about when a boy who is apathetic from years of neglect meets a girl who is just as heartless, and when they meet their hearts become unfrozen and they fall in love
it doesnt seem relationship orientated at all..just trying to go with your dreams regardless of what others try to tell you...
its normally to those poeple who try to tell you to be ''realistic'' and live in the ''real world''..whos world? theirs? eh nah
I also felt this could be another way to look at it too. I never see it as in that regard of a relationship.

I can't figure out what the beginning of the song is about. Obviously, a girl who was an outcast. But, I can't figure out what IT is: "IT said 'You're not the first to dream this, little girl. You know it's never happened once in this world. It never crossed my mind that one so young could hope to find a power greater then my own.'" And, it seems in the end that she either takes drugs or kills her self. More likely suicide.
oh come on ... drugs and suicide ... that would be way to emo for tbm ... it's about ...well ... a dream .Some little girl's dream actually come true .I don't see tragedy in this song , it's more ,like optimistic , finally somebody is happy for real -" just fine"
