Centerfolds Lyrics

Come on Balthazaa I refuse to let you die
Come on fallen star I refuse to let you die
Cos that's wrong and I've been waiting far too long
It's wrong I've been waiting far too long
For you to be..be me..be..be mine
For you to be mine..be mine..for you to be mine
And it's wrong, I've been waiting far too long
It's wrong, I've been waiting far too long
For you to be..be me..be

All the centrefolds that you can't afford
Have long since waved their last goodbyes
All the centrefolds that you can't afford
You've long since faded from their eyes
So be..be mine [x2]

Brian: "Someone telling a washed-up celebrity “I’m the best you can get now so you’d better be mine.” It’s about obsession, questions of status and self-degradation"

Nice...

Not that this means anything, I know it's probabably irrelevant, but one of the three wise men was called Balthazar, which would also give a new dimension to the 'fallen star' line following - perhaps a reference to lost faith in Jesus/religion. I don't pretend to know too much about Placebo songs, I try to appreciate the lyrics but with the ambiguity they could mean a number of different things. They are beautiful because they can mean different things to different people.

he wants the person he loves to love him and not those that dont want that person anymore. that itself is sad because although the person may succumb to the speaker, the speaker will always be the second choice. he's degrading himself just to achieve the 'love' or attention of someone that doesn't care about him.

omg this song reminds me sooo much of my girlfriend. especially the line "Come on fallen star I refuse to let you die". she's a cutter like i once was, and sometimes suicidal. its like im determined to save her, and not let her kill herself.

I mean let's face it, where is Balthazar now? He's a fallen star who hasn't been working a lot lately and probably can't afford all the "high class" centrefolds he used to date.

@sliverofme Amusing way of being right (and succinct) ???? ???? ????

so he's talking about someone who's done a lot of bad stuff, and so is a fallen star, balthazar or whatever name he's given them. the person has died or went away, but he doesn't feel prepared at all for this person's death, because they have unfinished buzinesses, and he always thought they'd have time to sort things out.. but they didn't. so he thinks it's wrong that the person's dead, because he had waited too long for things to be right, but they never were. I guess it's one of those weird relationships in which you don't actually know where the person's standing, and it was like that for a long time, and nothing was solved, nothing was settled and will never be. and so he has a lot of skeletons in his closet.. except he uses the word centrefolds, that are dirty and hollower. and so the person's taken too much of the bad stuff, and can't take it anymore.. which makes me think of an overdosis. and this thing's happened a while ago, because there's already been a goodbye, in which brian hasn' t really had his part, and hasn't been able to say his farewell. thing is, the person was unimportant to anyone else but him, and that's why he/she's faded from everybody's eyes and won't be remembered, which hurts brian, because it scars the memory he has of the person.

reminds me of a father-son unresolved relationship also.

I think this is about a person who is superficial and is past his prime and is in depression because of it. The speaker is in love with this person and is telling him that his days of being with centrefold models are over, so he should just succumb to the speaker's love.

It seems to me that he's in love with someone extremely superficial, hence: "All the centrefolds that you can't afford", meaning they mean nothing to that person, or vice versa. He's saying it's time to move on, because he's "been waiting far too long" and accept the fact you can't always have the flawless beauty.

But that's just me.

I think that it's about Balthazar Getty and Brian has a little crush on him.

i think the end sums it up. you cant have all the other people better than me so you might as well be mine.
