Nothing To Lose Lyrics
Need more friends with wings
All the angels I know
Put concrete in my veins
I'd always walk home alone
So I became lifeless
Just like my telephone
There's nothing to lose
When no one knows your name
There's nothing to gain
But the days don't seem to change
Never played truth or dare
I'd have to check my mirror
To see if I'm still here
My parents had no clue
That I ate all my lunches
Alone in the bathroom
There's nothing to lose
When no one knows your name
There's nothing to gain
But the days don't seem to change
There's nothing to lose
My notebook will explain
There's nothing to gain
And I can't fight the pain
Teach us that its just a phase
When I grow up my children
Will probably do the same
Kids just love to tease
Who'd know it put me underground
At seventeen
There's nothing to lose
When no one knows your name
There's nothing to gain
But the days don't seem to change
There's nothing to lose
When no one knows your name
There's nothing to gain
And I just died today
All the angels I know
Put concrete in my veins
I'd always walk home alone
So I became lifeless
Just like my telephone
When no one knows your name
There's nothing to gain
But the days don't seem to change
I'd have to check my mirror
To see if I'm still here
My parents had no clue
That I ate all my lunches
Alone in the bathroom
When no one knows your name
There's nothing to gain
But the days don't seem to change
There's nothing to lose
My notebook will explain
There's nothing to gain
And I can't fight the pain
When I grow up my children
Will probably do the same
Kids just love to tease
Who'd know it put me underground
At seventeen
When no one knows your name
There's nothing to gain
But the days don't seem to change
There's nothing to lose
When no one knows your name
There's nothing to gain
And I just died today

In an article featured in 'What Magazine', Ben Kowalewicz wrote that 'Nothing to Lose' was written after reading about an Ontario teen who killed himself after being bullied at school.
I went to the BT concert on the 29th and although it doesn't give much insight to the meaning I think we've already established what this song is about.
Anyways, right before they played this song Ben was like "I want you guys to do something and I don't do this very often but everyone hold up your lighter or cell phone." and the whole place lit up just like that. It was so cool because it was all the blue from the cells mixed with the lighters. We were really far up so the whole crowd kinda lit up below us. And he was all "No matter what happens your never ever, EVER alone. We got your back." Then he started to sing Nothing to Lose. My fave part of the entire night even if I didn't like the song as much as I loved some of the others. And everyone kept their lighters and stuff up during the song and it was so cool.
So basically I think BT made this song so people who were depressed or thinking of suicide would know they aren't alone and no matter what there will always be someone who cares about them even if they don't think anyone does.
this song is so real. that's all i can say.
Meh, I always thought it was about lonerism.. It only once really mentions someone being picked on, most often it's saying the person's just not noticed. eg: walking home alone, checking his mirror to see if he's still there etc. etc.
surely it's "but the days don't seem to change", not "taste". right?
yea definitely
yea definitely
This song is definitely about how a kid feels when they are bullied. "All the angels i know put concrete in my veins" is describing how sometimes the people close to you cannot help make the pain go away. "I'd always walk home alone so i became lifeless just like my telephone" is describing how a person being bullied feels like they are on the outside looking in and just watching their life go by instead of living it. Also, you truly feel like you have nothing to lose after a while. "I'd have to check my mirror to see if i'm still here" is referring to the outside looking in feeling such as above. The days also never seem to change. The "Teach us that it's just a phase" is a reference to how people around you justify it. Teacher's will say you are being over sensitive, parents will hope it just goes away, and the bullies parents will say that their kid would never do that. Finally the "And i just died today" part describes perfectly how you feel at the end of every day or it can mean the person killed themselves. That's what i think. BTW, i've seen Billy Talent in concert and this song rocks live.
True. High sensitivity is a trait, which means that it doesn't disappear. When teachers say you're oversensitive, that's exactly what you are and there's not a thing you can do about the trait itself.

Obviously, unfortunately, much of Western culture see this as a bad thing, while countries like China see this as a good thing. The trick is to disassociate yourself from others, accept who you are, realize that since no one understood you, no one really knew you. Also, sensitive people are also unusually smart and creative.

This song is so sad, to put yourself in the character being sung about's shoes. It's about someone who's lost all hope from being put down for so long. The line about angels I believe is about the kids who make fun of him. That they're most likely the model students, the ones with the good grades..who the teachers think are wonderful - when in actuality they cheat and rip everyone apart. Someone has to know what I'm talking about.
ya this song is about a kid in my city (brampton) who killed himself after people bullied him and then someone gave him a quarter to go kill himself....he went to notre dame highschool or something
after seeing this video. I just wanted to go over to that school and take the boots to them. I hate those people they do'nt understand the shit people are going through when they are depressed. I've had this happen to me and it just sucked
ya, i wonder what the guys in BT would do if they got a hold of the kids who offered that kid the quarter
