(Per)version of a Truth Lyrics

When everything is lost (peel it all away). Haunting us with questions
(asking).
Will we ever find the smile inside (no), is it hiding behind the sweating
eyes (bleeding)?
Dead inside - a scream that's pouring from me!
I'm planted in this skin (constricting and pulling me).
This dirty, filthy skin (rancid and stinging me!)
I burn behind the walls (that have become my world).
The bearer of a gift, FUCK YOUR GIFT!
TRUTH DOES NOT EXIST, but the lies do... (2x)
They're buried in the skin, evolved.
Perversion of a truth, I'm stuck there. (Alone) Inside of lies buried in me,
WHY?!
Born into a world; never asked to be here. Try to forget truth doesn't exist,
TRUTH!
It doesn't exist, it doesn't exist, TRUTH! DAATH!
Always inside a tragedy (things never seem to go away).
A room that I remember (portraits I carry).
Try letting go of this space (bad habits can't kick me).
The fool that fell from heaven, HEAVEN!
Perversion of a truth, I'm stuck there. (Alone) Inside of lies buried in me,
WHY!?
Born into a world; never asked to be here. Try to forget truth doesn't exist,
TRUTH!
It doesn't exist, it doesn't exist, TRUTH!
Maybe we're all the children of a star, misguided in direction, our
misdirection.
Pardon me while I pray for light.
(I'm not the only one...) that walks between the rain, there are many
(I'm not the only one...) when everything is lost that doesn't surrender
Perversion of a truth, I'm stuck there inside of lies buried in me, WHY?!
(Alone)
Blind walking through a world, I never asked to be here.
Versions of the truth, I'm not the only one.
LIES! (*repeated*

What a great song. This song, like more and more of Mudvayne's songs that I have researched, is shrouded in Hermetic symbolism. On the surface, this song is about what all of you are saying about religion and whatever.

On a completely different note, however, the song deals with what is known as the hidden sephira on the tree of life. I think that if they didn't let out that one scream of daath, no one would EVER be the wiser. But, since they stuck that in the particular line they put it in, truth, or the seeking of truth and knowledge, is an illusion. Like seeking the forbidden fruit, we are driven to find out how things work, why we're here, blah blah blah.

This hidden sephira, however, is a distraction from the real, undeniable truth that lies beyond. This truth cannot exist for us here, for once we reach that truth (kether), we no longer have reason for being here.

I think its about living in a world of black. That we are planted here and living this melancholy existence. That when we know the seperation of the truth and the lies, we find out where they lie (no pun intended).

I was let on to one thing from a certain intelligent being:

Light can destroy darkness. But darkness cannot destroy light. It can merely cover it.

I believe we are all covered in a shell of filth and lies. That if someday a spotlight of truth were to shine on this world, it would be completely black. People would be covered in this muck, blurring and distorting the true lines of who they are.

"Maybe we're all the children of a star, misguided in direction, our misdirection. Pardon me while I pray for light. (I'm not the only one...) that walks between the rain, there are many (I'm not the only one...) when everything is lost that doesn't surrender"

This is my favorite part! It's like he's trying to relay that we are truly children of the light. And that we have been bent to believe the lies are the truth.

I do notice some irony mentioned in this song. How he pains when he questions how he has to go through everything alone (this fight against the lies).

Yet, he knows he's not the only one who has walked and seen what is really out there.

Which leads me to believe... a lot of people are surrendering themselves these days.

To me it means before we are born we are all pure and good, planted in this world by the "light", however we are planted in these bodies witch are basicly contaminated, we grow up and evolve but the lies control our life's, everything we learn is based on a whole life of only lies.

So he starts to wonder if we are all the children of something greater than we can imagine (the star), the star guides us on a path, and in the end of the path we realize that this whole journey (our life) we end up as liars and betrayers, just by trying to fit in with the rest of humanity.

Like, if you think about the word "table salt", the table is our life, and the salt is truth. If we'd realize that someone has been lying to us, making us believe that "table" is the right word, that makes "table salt" wrong witch makes the the truth a part of a lie.

So nothing is really 100% true.

I think this song actually has to do with religion. Having so much trouble believing in god. As in the world is so dark and gray that it seems there is no god because why would he have made the earth so miserable. With the lyrics "Never asked to be here" in other words he never asked god to be sent here like everyone else thinks it a priveledge to be here. He wonders why god put him here if he knew how much shit the singer would of went through. The whole thing on lies could mean about all the churches and religions. How they seem like such lies to him and there is no god. I love this song though, it sounds so gloomy and dark. But anyway thats what I bleive this song is about.

Song Meaning

Even though you can find many different meanings into this song, the main theme behind it (and the whole album) is actually the zodiac, if you check the booklet you'll see that each song has one of the zodiac signs associated with it, in this case is Capricorn, and the song basically depicts how Capricornians are supposed to be: Pessimistic and Rigid Fatalistic and Over Conventional Miserly and Grudging Lonely and Melancholy

TEOATTC is a concept album, but you only notice that if you have the booklet that tells you how the songs and signs are associated.

I agree with KAISERSWAYZE there is definitely a reason why he screams DAATH in the middle of the song.

"(I'm not the only one...) that walks between the rain, there are many"

Occult (not a negative meaning, only means "Hidden") practices are not really promoted and displayed in public, unlike other religions, so they mainly keep hidden from public eye (Oath of Silence). So I would call these "the people that walk between the rain". There are many people who practice and study the Occult studies, but you don't know about it because they don't advertise. ("There are Many")

On a side note: (referencing a my comment for Mercy and Severity) I really like how Mudvayne does their lyrics. Its just like Occult texts. Gives you a little something to chew on rather than a quick and shallow gratification. Hidden in plain sight. Most people (not trying to sound egotistical, just trying to illustrate a point, sorry) take the surface meaning of something and run with it, but through careful observation and study ("The eye of yin rewards understanding") the richer and deeper meanings arise and the reward for dutiful study is presented.

Just my take

Great song off Mudvaynes new album. Anyone know what it means though?

Truth- "To tell the higher form of a Truth to one who cannot understand it is to lie to him because, though correctly formulated, it will not be correctly recieved."

Daath is hebrew for "Knowledge"

^that is so fucking stupid truth is truth rather that person is an idiot or not i think this song is about getting cought in other peoples or your own lie

It's about being "born into a world" where "truth doesn't exist." ...duh.

As we grow up, the lies that we were originally fed as young children multiply, grow, and evolve until that's all that we know and are aware of. (these liars are the bearers of the said "gifts")

Chad sings here about how the only escape he has from the falsity of the world is to retreat inside his own mind, in a place he has designated where no one can (or ever did) penetrate. Thus, the only truths in the world are the abstract thoughts inside our own minds, the ones that aren't inspired or perceived from the outside world.
