Oh-oh, hey
When they push, when they pull
Tell me, you can hold on?
When they say you should change
Can you lift your head high
And stay strong?
Will you give up, give in
When your hearts crying out
That it's wrong?
Will you love you for you
At the end of it all?

Now, in life there's gonna be times
When you're feeling low
And in your mind, insecurity
Seems to take control
We start to look outside ourselves
For acceptance and approval
We keep forgettin' that
The one thing we should know is

Don't be scared to fly alone
Find a path that is your own
Love will open every door
It's in your hands
The world is yours
Don't hold back and always know
All the answers will unfold
What are you waiting for?
Spread your wings and soar

The boy who wonders
Is he good enough for them?
Keeps tryna please em' all
But he just never seems to fit in
Then there's the girl who thinks
She'll never, ever be good enough for him
Keeps tryna change, and
That's a game she'll never win

In life, ooh gonna be times
When you're feeling low
And in your mind, ooh, insecurity
Seems to take control
We start to look outside ourselves
For acceptance and approval
We keep forgettin' that
One thing we should know is

Don't be scared to fly alone
Find a path that is your own
Love will open every door
It's in your hands
The world is yours (the world is yours, yeah)
Don't hold back and always know
All the answers, they will unfold
What are you waiting for?
Spread your wings and soar (ooh)

In the mirror
Is where she comes face to face
With her fears
Her reflection, looks foreign to her
After all these years
All of her life she has tried to be something
Besides herself
Now time has passed
And she's ended up someone else with regret

What is it in us (in us)
That makes us feel the need
To keep pretending?
Gotta let ourselves be, ooh-oh

Don't be scared to fly alone
Find a path that is your own (that is your own)
Love will open every door
It's in your hands
The world is yours (whoa-oh)
Don't hold back and always know
All the answers will unfold (oh, all the answers will unfold)
Don't wait, no more
Spread your wings and soar (spread your wings and soar)

Find your road
Love will open every door
See in your hands the world is yours
Don't hold back, and always know, you'll find your way
Oh, don't wait
Spread your wings and soar (spread your wings and soar)
Don't wait no more (oh-whoa, yeah-yeah-yeah)
You've got to soar
Spread your wings and soar
Don't wait, no more
Spread your wings and soar
You can soar

So, what you waiting for?
Don't wait, don't wait
Soar
Oh yeah

This song is about not being afraid of who you are and having the courage to believe in yourself in order to be who you want to be. In a lot of ways this was what Christina did before her album 'Stripped' came out because before she felt she was pretending to be something she wasn't. This song is inspirational, and it sounds vaguely familiar. 'Stripped' was a great album and 'Soar' is just an example of Christina's talent. She really does have a very powerful voice. I am a big Christina Aguilera fan and saw her in concert not so long ago. She was brilliant...and yes, that voice is real!

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
