Chips and Dip Lyrics
when she's got to say goodbye
after staying out late on a weeknight
and I walk on the side of the road
under industrial lights
it can be such a shame
how short the night and day
all that I've been for so long
is trying to get right here
and sometimes I can't make myself shuck and jive
perfection's on her tongue rolls out in monotone
that's where the heartache goes
and I do the same you know
I do the same you know
here's the final row
I do the same you know
it's just you can't see it
chips and dip
when she's got to say good-bye
staying out late on a week night
sometimes I can't make myself shuck and jive
cause where the heartache goes
I do the same you know
I do the same you know
after staying out late on a weeknight
and I walk on the side of the road
under industrial lights
it can be such a shame
how short the night and day
is trying to get right here

I just thought about how this song sounds like the hopeful opening of a love story and how chips and dip are traditionally the opening of most meals in Austin, TX. You can order pancakes and they'll bring you chips and dip for apps.
I love this song.
it's such a sweet song. tender and sweet and heartbreaking too.
Lyrics & music are touching & sad. Sounds like a classic crooner's song, love it.
Best song of the EP, sounds like the end of a great night out and they're both sad to say goodbye, although I don't know what "shuck and jive" means. anybody?

"Shucking and jiving" was a tactic of both survival and resistance. A slave, for instance, could say eagerly, "Oh, yes, Master," and have no real intention to obey. Or an African-American man could pretend to be working hard at a task he was ordered to do, but might put up this pretense only when under observation. Both would be instances of "doin' the old shuck 'n jive."

This song is one of my favorites. I get held up on my heart a bunch when it comes to girls (thinly veiled Walkmen reference) and this is always the song I put on once the scar tissue (figuratively) has begun to form. Love the "It can be such a shame/how short the night and day." Many times, I thought about this during a fling that I was into, but at the same time, knew that would end soon. We never are sated by the amount of time we are given and the more you live in the moment the better, at least that's how I feel.
