The Shame Lyrics

My heart is a black haunted loom
Weaving jackets for children who'll never be born
My hands are abandoned factories
Manufacturing heartbreak and hate for the world
As we waltz the broken dance of our limbs
This ballroom has been groped by so many evil whims
As I drill the last hole into you
The well of your body has hardened into glue

Everything is going to be just awful when we're around
All the colors gonna rot off your sight when we're around

I remember the day that I sold my smile
To that nice couple who lost their first child
I threw in a set of sympathy
And a bucket of popcorn for the cemetery
But now my face is all fenced off
The sky is boarded up, the hills covered in drop cloth

How many chords 'til this song vomits out real love?
How many feathers to pluck naked the soiled dove?
How many whores 'til you send away for that trophy?
And how many punches 'til you give yourself away for free?

Because those bruises on your face
Look like the sun setting in disgrace
(From these cliffs, you can see the whole city
Laid out groveling like a field of wounded soldiers
The billboards in heat and hissing
The sky scrapers stitching the gash of the earth
As they waltz the broken dance of their limbs
Their ballroom has been groped by so many evil whims)

Everything is going to be just awful when we're around
All the colors gonna rot off your sight when we're around

I am just a salesman, pleased to meet you, can I show you around?
Everything must go the shadows, the seagulls when we're around
This is our shame

i think this song is sung from the point of view of all the characters in their songs. 'i'm just a salesmen pleased to meet you can i show you around' = denver max 'As I drill the last hole into you, the well of your body has hardened into glue' = cecilia 'As we waltz the broken dance of our limbs this ballroom has been groped by so many evil whims' six nightmares of the pinball masquerade.

the song summarises the entire CD. the CD is about the evils in our society, people who are there, who are genuinely evil, or who have problems, but we don't register it until they are dead or raping 15 year old girls. the album attacks the darker side of human nature. 'and everything is gonna be just awful when we're around'

I think this is about the character who the Blood Brothers write. But in a way he's realizing that the stuff he does makes everything go wrong. "How many whores 'till you send away for that trophy?" A lot of the CD seems to have this character using women, and perhaps he realizes it.

They make a denver max reference: "I am just a salesman, pleased to meet you can I show you around?"

I think the song's kind of about God and how corrupted the entire world is. Just listen to the lyrics...or like...an anti-god...creating all the bad things and corruption.

"How many chords till this song vomits out real love?" one of my favorite lines ever ever.

the part where he says i am just a salesman, pleased to meet you, can i show you around lasts too long in my opinion

I've got to agree with exciting. Such a sarcastic, hate-filled lyric, but so beautiful. The entire song seems to be about how pointless and destructive they think of themselves as being, and that one line just screams "No matter how loud we scream, or how hard we play, you'll never ever get a real emotion out of this noise."

"How many feathers to pluck naked the soiled dove?"

an obvious reference to soiled doves
