This song is one of my personal favorites. It's a simple song, but the meaning to it, is awesome.
It's a love song for the one person in your life that means so much to you, whether you know them well or have yet to meet them. In the latter case, it's about waiting for that person.
for most people, the lyrics can definately be love lyrics, but I;m pretty sure George wrote it partly (or mainly) as a song about his devotion to God, as were many songs on his 'All Things Must Pass' album. Great song, which everyone can interpret in their own way.

That is definitely the way I interpret it. "You" in this song, is God. He is talking about the emptiness we can feel here on Earth... He is waiting, and searching for how to be one with God.
