The Misery Lyrics
I write the lines you want me to, with the words I dare to use of all
the ones that you have taught me, along the years
You cast a perfect shadow on the paper, fade away with sunlight, I fear
the way you know me, love can leave a stain...
You steal my only hope and make me stay awake another night,I wish you
bear with me, stay near me
When the Autumn leaves have fallen....
Solitude, my pain, the last thing left of me..
If you fall I´ll catch, if you love I´ll love, and so it goes, my dear,
don´t be scared,
you´ll be safe, this I swear. If you only love me
Seven lonely lies written on Deadwinter´s night, open the only book with
the only poem I can read
In blood I sign my name and seal the midnight with a tear, burn the
paper, every line for them I cried?
If you fall I´ll catch, if you love I´ll love, and so it goes, my dear,
don´t be scared,
you´ll be safe, this I swear. If you only love me
I am the Playwrite and you are my Crown, make me cry for your love, like
you´ve done many times, so I know
I can´t write these storylines without you, Lady pain, make me strong,
can´t we be together without them forever?
The words I write can only hurt you, sorry for the rain, thank you, my
only one, you gave me this pain
I leave you gently on the floor, take one step towards the door,
where´s the letter never written, goodnight now?
If you fall I´ll catch, if you love I´ll love, and so it goes, my dear,
don´t be scared,
you´ll be safe, this I swear. If you only love me
If you fall I´ll catch, if you love I´ll love, and so it goes, my dear,

Had to register here just to share my opinion about this song. I'm not 100% sure but this is what I've read from this one site and it was told to be said by the Singer of the band in an interview... The song is about writing songs, and the misery connected to it. The "person" this song is talking to is actually a pen.
"You cast a perfect shadow on the paper." "I can't write these storylines without you" Pen, obviously.
Anyway, it's a very beautiful song that has had a big meaning for me in my life - it used to be song I could use to remember one person. Not anymore, though. When I first read the "right" meaning told by the author, I was disappointed for that I had formed a story around the song and had such a powerful idea about it.
Uh, I writed a long comment, sorry.
As I see it, it is a man who' trapped in a relationship based on addiction to love. He feels terrible pain by staying with her because she must be manipulative of some sort and can't stop loving her nevertheless.
At one point the pain is simply too much so he write her a letter probably saying that he doesn't want to be with her anymore. Crushed with guilt and the fact that he would lose her love, he bruns the letter because he knows he won't be abble to leave her.
The only escape he finds from this pain is by killing her.
It would seem to make more sense if it were BY a pen rather than TO a pen. Ex: "I write the lines you want me to..."
Very well said mopi. I'm surprised this song doesn't have more comments. Very beautiful song.
Beautiful song. I didn't get the part about killing her though.
I've gotten that impression...at all. I see this more as the woman the narrator loves is dieing, and it's about the way he's dealing with it. He's with her at her death bed. The feeling in the song doesn't come across like your explanation to me. The writing referances make me think he was writing something for her, but never finished it before she died. I dunno, I've just never gotten the impression she was killed by the narrator, nor that the relationship was greatly flawed like that.
It's now proved that I really am stupid. xD I've always loved this song but now I just realized why. This song is like my life. I'm in love with the pain but I gotta get rid of her because she's killing me. And even the part of this song is true...when he says: "I can´t write these storylines without you, Lady pain" I'm a writer myself, but without The One I really couldn't write anything. I always write from my heart but where's my heart if my beloved pain wouldn't be there making me cry?
I totally cry everytime I hear this song, especially now when I know why it makes me cry. I really love a poet who can make me cry just like my very own Lady Pain does. ^__^
I'm terribly sorry, but I'm pretty sure you all jsut got shot to Shit by Irratium.
No, I dont think the speaker is talking to a pen. If you look closer, you notice two "Persons" who are being adressed: "Lady Pain" and "My dear/my only one". I think he partly speaks to his pain, especially when he says "I write the lines you want me to" and "You steal my only hope and made me stay awake another night" and party speaks to his beloved one when he says: "If you fall, I'll catch, if you love I'll love" and so on. The theory with the pen seems not to fit if you look at lines like: "Don't be scared", or did you ever see a scared pen? Well, although I do not believe it, I am still thinking about it.
The idea of it being to a pen does quite explain a lot of this song to me. I think it is definitely about writing, though. I have always thought of it being about the writer's Muse. She inspires him to write because he is hopelessly in love with her but it hurts to love her because he cannot have her. This pain is what gives him fuel to write, however, so it is a tragic paradox. I dunno, just my take on it.
