For A Bandaged Iris Lyrics
I know we've never met and you'll probably never read this.
There are certain things your voice does to me, it makes me feel the ground
and sky again.
How sad it is when you spill your guts on the paper.
It only neglects you and never relieves.
In every corner and space I search for you,
I've only found your vocal cords.
Hate that I'm never certain of what needs what most.
All day your songs spin me into a romance repeatedly to the sky.
Scream over and over again repeatedly to the sky.
In every corner and space I search for you,
I've only found your vocal cords.
Hate that I'm never certain of what needs what most.
And nothing has affected me so...
In every corner and space I search for you,
I've only found your vocal cords.
Hate that I'm never certain of what needs what most.

It's about a singer for a band he likes...
...either that or a girl, but that's too cliche.
omg! i can't believe nobody has commented on this song. dear lord jesus almighty! this song is abso-fucking-lutely gorgeous! i love how he sings "in every corner...needs what most" that whole part makes me want to cry and soil my underpants. sigh fuck it this whole cd kicks me in the balls!
no i think it's about his dad. i think a lot of the songs on this cd are about his dad. like on uhh "letters.." thats about his dad. and how he says "i guess the screaming it runs in the family" and notice how he is again talking about how he inherited his dads abilty to yell and what not. i think jeff creates a running theme about his dad throughouth the cd. i think many of the songs are written about his dad and his shittiness.
I dunno if it's about his dad but it's definitley an interesting angle. Either way good song. Hard to tell what's the story behind this song.
it's hard to tell what this song is about...i've found that to be a recurring theme with the songs off of You Come Before You..the lyrics are more abstract than "Opposite" or "Tear From the Red"...in any case the lyrics to this song are GOOD....i think that the song might be about how as a kid he tried to establish a relationship with his dad, but he never could because his dad would only yell at him, even though he so desperately tried to build a relationship with him ("In every corner and space i search for you, i've only found your vocal cords"). now looking back as an adult, he still thinks about it and wishes he could have had a better child life ("hate that i'm never certain of what needs what most, and nothing has affected me so..."), and he feels like he never really had a father growing up("i know we've never met...") so basically this song is similar to Loved Ones, except where that song is angry, this one is more desperate, kind of like he is using this song as a last resort to tell his father how much he hurt him, even though he knows it's futile. ("i know we've never met, and you'll probably never read this")...that's what i could gather from it...
I thought it was fairly obvious that its about a singer that he likes, and has never met. All he has of her is her vocal chords, or voice from listening to her songs. her songs spin him into a romance... i thought this theme was fairly evident, i don't know where the father theme comes in this song or where anybody got that idea for this specific song, but i guess its all in the eye of the beholder
Ahh all i can say is WOWW!! This song is soo amazing by far my favorite song on this cd and one of my favorites by this great band. I saw them play this song lgivves ya chills up your spine. Yah and screw what everyone has to say about them selling out and how there album sux. It totally rocks both lyrically and musically. You can tell they dont care anymore what everyone thinks there gonna play what they want and how they feel, watch there DVD they even said it and when they didnt close with NERDY at the show this definetly reflected that. I totally respect these guys for the awesome talent that they have and there totally awesome in person!
i agree with a lot of you. i think it's about a singer in a different band. "how sad it is when you spill your guts on paper". that's amazing. i don't think it's about his dad at all, although i do think most of the other songs on YCBY are about his parents.
i also think its about his admiration of another singer and how just there voice and the words they say keep him sain "There are certain things your voice does to me, it makes me feel the ground and sky again. Why would that be about his dad... and the part about the space and corner, i believe he is talking about the singer" band's albulm book and he's sees that they didn't thank him and his band "poison the well" he only finds the singers voice when the cd spins he spills his gut onto the paper hoping the band that he admires so much will notice, but it only neglects him
thats all from me, maybe im wrong...way off even?
This song sounds too "romantic" to be about his dad. I think it's about a girl, band or not. A girl who he thinks is oblivious to him, who never notices him, probably seems as unreachable as a girl in a band.
