Taylor Lyrics
complain, express, ideas in her brain,
working on the night shift, passing out the tickets,
you're going to have to pay her, if you want to park here,
well mommy's little dancer has a quite a little secret,
working on the streets now, never going to keep it,
it's quite an imposition, but now she's only wishin,
that she would have listened to the words they said ...
Poor Taylor...She just wanders around, unaffected by,
the winter winds, well she'll pretend that, she's somewhere else,
so far and clear, 'bout 2000 miles from here ...
Peter Patrick pitter-patters on the window,
but Sunny's silouette won't let him in,
and poor old pete's got nothing, 'cause he's been falling,
and somehow Taylor# knows, just where he's been,
he thinks that singing on sunday 'gonna save his soul,
now that saturday's gone, well sometimes he thinks that he's on his way,
but i can see, that his brake lights are on...
He just wanders around, unaffected by,
the winter winds, yeah and he'll pretend that, he's somewhere else,
so far and clear, 'bout 2000 miles from here ...
she says she's a tough encilada, fill up with nada,
givin' what you gotta give to get a dollar bill,
used to be a limber chicken, time's a been a ticken,
now she's finger lickin' to the man,
with the money in his pocket, flying in his rocket,
only stopping by on his way to a better world...
if taylor finds a better world...taylor's gonna run away ....
Taylor is a prostitute and Peter is a john. He's wandering around because his wife Sunny just locked him out of his house. The reason is Sunny like Taylor also knows where he's been. But I could be wrong.
I don't think that it could be anymore obvious what this song is about...It seems clear to me that Taylor is one who sells her innocence and that Peter Patrick is a man who indulges in these sexual services. Sunny “won’t let him in” because she “knows, just where he's been.” Or for those of us who can’t rub both of our brain cells together; she knows he has been cheating and so she metaphorically won’t “let him in”, or in other words she is mad at him. When Jack states that “he thinks that singing on sunday 'gonna save his soul, now that Saturday’s gone,” he is making a Christian reference in that if Peter goes to church on Sunday it won’t make up for his indulgences of the previous evening. A “better world” is simply a privileged life; the man stops by (for sex) and then goes home to his “better world.”
I think the rest of you are right about the prostitution thing. About the "2000 miles" part: Jack Johnson went to college at UCSB, and hawaii is a little over 2000 miles from california. The characters in this song are dreaming of a peacful, tropical life in hawaii (where Jack grew up) far away from the turmoil of the city streets.
This is by far the best song off of On and On.
The song shows the unpredictability of life through two people’s stories. Taylor’s life goes from the straight and narrow of getting good grades and working as a parking attendant; to being pregnant contemplating an abortion, and walking the streets “givin what you gotta give to get a dollar bill.” All along she imagines being two thousand miles away (a reference to Hawaii). Then there is Peter Patrick. Peter “pitter patters on the window,” stands for him trying to get into heaven; “sunny silhouette won’t let him in,” tells how God will not let Peter into heaven because of the sins he...

Peter thinks that going to going to church will change his soul’s fate, but every time he is on his way the reality is that he is not making any progress at all. Both Taylor and Peter are yearning for the unattainable “better world.” Hi Ms. Lee. #
man the guitar is awesome in this. hmm what do the lyrics mean
I always thought that the song was talking about a prostitute or a stripper: just a girl who didn't know what she was getting into when she left home, and now she's stuck. I'm kind of confused on the "Peter Patrick" part; does anyone have any ideas? I've just been taking it as a guy who is just drifting through life, not really going anywhere, and like Taylor, he dreams that he's far away.

i dont know waht this crappin song means but its awesome
this song is deff about a prostute
I always thought that Peter Patrick was just a man who is drinking, doing drugs, maybe he is a john, but anyway, I think Sunny's silhouette means that he's trying to get into the light of life, but singing on Sunday is not going to save his soul.
Maybe I'm just too analytical.
