Voices Off Camera Lyrics

can you hear the desperate cries that are calling out your name?
twisting your arms, holding out their hands and tugging at your sleeve,
do you feel this underlying sense of urgency or are you as blind as me?
I hit the ground and I'm still running but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning I just need somewhere now
I can't bear the thought of losing,
I dread the attention winning brings
and ever since the day I came
I can stand without your strings
I'm so sick of all these people
but I'm scared to be alone
and if this life has taught me anything
I forgot it long ago and so I
I hit the ground and I'm still running but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning I just need somewhere warm to close my eyes
I hit the ground and I'm still running but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning I just need somewhere warm to close my eyes
the heart is something you can't control
we either choose to follow or be left on our own
so we're leaving here on a less-travelled road
as desperate cries grow louder, I know we're getting close, getting close
I hit the ground and I'm still running but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning I just need somewhere warm to close my eyes
I hit the ground and I'm still running but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning I just need somewhere warm to close my eyes

My personal interpretation is probably wildly off, but it goes like this: The first verse refers to somebody who is too caught up in their own pain to notice the pain of others, or is either too free of pain to notice the pain of others. Don't really know about the urgency part, but the blindness probably means the person singing is also too caught up in their life to see the problems of others

Chorus means that he's hit the ground (as in, a crash and burn type of thing), and as such is running from his problems. The "place to stay tonight" probably refers to him just getting help, maybe in the form of love, from somebody. "Swear I'll be gone in the morning" probably means he says he will fade from that persons life as soon as he becomes a burden, but he needs something there for him now.

The losing and winning part is fairly self explanitory. The strings part probably means he can't stand without the support (or possibly control, since it says strings) of someone else, probably the person whom he's asking for "shelter" for the "night". He dislikes the people around him, yet he's scared to be left alone with no one to stand by him. If life has taught him anything, he forgot it long ago, referring to the aforementioned blindness.

The heart part probably simply refers to that suppressing your emotions and not doing what you feel is right will leave you on your own. Dunno about the less traveled road part, but the desperate cries growing louder probably and getting closer probably refers to being rid of the aforementioned blindness.

That was needlessly long, but oh well ;p

I think this song is about someone who is anti-social and doesnt belong finally snapping and giving up on their past lifestyle... the part "I'm so sick of all these people, but I'm scared to be alone" makes me think that this person surrounded themselves with people because they didnt wanna be alone, but they realize they cant relate to any of them.

The chorus describes how they have never belonged anywhere, and they still dont. The person started off their life running, and hasnt stopped running.

ThePlasticSpork's explanation of the protagonist's reliance on other people is spot on, IMO. I love the song's contrast between hating the presence of others and yet needing it to get by.

"I can't bear the thought of losing, I dread the attention winning brings"

This is one of my favorite RA lyrics.

First verse feels like a refugee situation: desperate people out of their luck in hard situation needing and asking for help, but commonly not having it.\nChorus is continuation of it as personal speech of the one.\nSecond verse feels like a partial recovery, but not assimilation. There\'s nowhere else to go even if the recovered refugee doesn\'t like or approve the new way of life and not happy in the society.\nThird verse says that for people who knows what exactly they want loneliness or escape from society is often the only escape. Trying to reach happiness of what the heart really wants is painful path and often only hope remains.

i kinda think of.. someone running away from someone else... and they happen to encounter them as the only place they can stay that night, they promise they will be gone, they just need an ounce of sympathy for the time being. and that they arent learning anything from this type of life, and even if they have they 'forgot it long ago'

The beginning of the song outlines the circumstances at hand, the desperate cries, urgency etc. The chorus of “hit the ground…” tells us of some kind of retreat or escape to somewhere safe to plan the next move. This may be a plan to overthrow, or to subordinate. That is probably the theme of this song, where this may be about a group of people that are trying to achieve a goal that involves them countering what is widely believed. The ‘interlude’ of “the heart…” kind of confuses me a little bit, and it may just be something that is just a statement. Relating back to the theme to overthrow (weather it be the gov’t or whatever) it might be stating something like a lesson stating that the beliefs of people that are going against the masses may be something that leaves you standing alone, but the more people that do it, the closer we get to the goal.

I've always seen it as he's been hit with something huge but managed to stay on his feet but now he's out looking for help and can't continue on by himself.
