Heaven Knows Lyrics
The day I learn to fly , I'm never coming down
On perfect wings I'll rise through the layers of the clouds
And from there I see the neon grids of cities
And six million people that keep their fires lit
I threw a party in my name
But the hours crawled by and no one came
So I bowed my head and I prayed for wings
To take me from this place... fuck you
I see myself inside, you dream the dreams that I do,
You're still searching for these answers, they're not inside your wrist
And from there I see the neon grids of cities
And six million people that keep their fires lit
I threw a party in my name
But the hours crawled by and no one came
So I bowed my head and I prayed for wings
To take me from this place... from you
I close my eyes as the curtains draw,
I thought I heard your voice but I thought wrong,
'cause you're not there anymore,
No you're not there anymore
And so I lift my chin and the show goes on,
The sky is listening, the stars all sing along,
But you're not there anymore,
And I just can't care anymore
On perfect wings I'll rise through the layers of the clouds
And six million people that keep their fires lit
But the hours crawled by and no one came
So I bowed my head and I prayed for wings
To take me from this place... fuck you
You're still searching for these answers, they're not inside your wrist
And six million people that keep their fires lit
But the hours crawled by and no one came
So I bowed my head and I prayed for wings
To take me from this place... from you
I thought I heard your voice but I thought wrong,
'cause you're not there anymore,
No you're not there anymore
The sky is listening, the stars all sing along,
But you're not there anymore,
And I just can't care anymore

The way I look at this song is more of a conversation than anything else. If you listen closely to the tone of the verses compared to te chorus, you can hear the difference in his voice. Also, the meaning of the verses show that the person is trying to talk his friend out of killing himself, whereas in the chorus, the person who may attempt suicide is giving excuses; "I threw a party in my name" says that he tried to reach out and talk to people, and become friends with them, "but the hours crawled by and no one came" means that he was turned away, and finally "so I bowed my head and I prayed for wings to take me from this place... from you" says that he wants to end his life becuse he is alone, but realizes that he is going to lose the one person that cared - the person he's talking to. Then, at the end, the friend is talking, saying that he doesn't care anymore, he tried, but the suicidal one won't listen. Just my $.02

I always thought of the first part in the exact opposit way. "the day i learn to fly" beeing the day he finally commits suicide and gets away from this world, looking back at all those people remaining and "keeping there fires lit", staying alive. Then he talks about how he tried to make friends and get along but was rejected and now he can't take it any more and "prays for wings to take him from this place" meaning something like praying for redemption cause he just can't stand his life anymore and wants to die. The "from you" refers to his only friend, and that he knows he'll let down the only one that cared about him. Then his friend is talking, saying that they are the same and he knows how he feels, but cutting and thinking of suicide can never be an answer.
Then the first person is talking again, repeating what he said before. The second person then slowly realises he can't save his friend (or he is already dead). He is terribly sad and thinks about his friend (thought i heart you're voice) but he realises his friend made his decisition and is gone, and now he himself has to go on with his life and stand his ground although he is probably all alone
Fucking awesome song "you're still searching for the answers, they're not inside your wrist" is probably the most amazing line ever, the whole song is terribly sad but helps you to go on, no matter what happened

About the second line, I think it could be referring to going up to the top of a skyscraper on the elevator. It says he is "ris[ing]" and passing through the clouds. Then after he gets up there he sees the neon lights of cities.

second line, on perfect wings ill rise. i love this song so much, its so great
and so I lift my chin and the show goes on, the sky is listening, the stars all sing along, but you're not there anymore, and I just can't care anymore *i think this verse is awsome .. its potraying the image of moving on .. i love this song!
I love this song, one of my favorite Rise Against songs.
Also, the lyrics should be 6 billion, not 6 million, because I'm pretty sure that's what he says. 6 million doesn't make much sense, but 6 billion does, because there are about 6 billion people in the world.
This sounds to me like suicide and a response. How someone who felt like no one gave a shit about them rises above into heaven. But the problem is that the people who are left behind have to live with the pain.
To me it says: I wanted to be, but couldn't. So I left everyone.
And the reply is: Look. 6 million people keep going, I keep going, the answer wasn't death. its fighting on. And now you're gone and you've left me with this pain and I'll close my eyes and as the curtains draw I think I hear you because you left, but you left a mark, and I keep going. And I tell your story and I can't care because you're gone.
waw.

the day i learn to fly, i'm never coming down.
It seems he's relating to someone who wants to commit suicide in the lines: I see myself inside, you dream the dreams that I do. You're still searchinf for these answers, they're not inside your wrist.
Seems that he was unable to help, as: I thought I heard your voice but I thought wrong. 'Cause you're not there anymore.
But he has no choice but to move on, because he "just can't care anymore."
