Soon as you came in, all the beast went away
They noticed that you're warm, wait till you leave then come back for more...
The ropes hang to keep us all awake and I should have known
As soon as you came in, the agony went away
I noticed what you wore to everything we spoke and more...
And the ropes hang to keep us all awake and I should have known
It only takes one break of your pose to get off
To save our place... home with you... still the same song...
As soon as you came in is when I believe we both crashed course
And the ropes hang to keep us all awake and I should have known
It only takes one break of your pose to get off
And to save our place home with you all
That's all it takes
Well I should have known it's still the same song
They noticed that you're warm, wait till you leave then come back for more...
The ropes hang to keep us all awake and I should have known
As soon as you came in, the agony went away
I noticed what you wore to everything we spoke and more...

it could be about a girl..
as soon as they met he knew she was different, everything he ever wanted.. they are the same song. but that didnt erase everything from his past. addictions maybe.. sex, drugs, w/e.. the beasts. when he sees her nothing else matters, but when she's gone its hard to be strong and resist. the ropes apply because maybe its so unbelievable to find someone this way and finally feel good with another person, that it seems like a dream.. but he hangs himself on his addiction/pain..its hurting him, but its been his reality up to this point, it keeps him "awake" in his mind.
maybe things happened too fast between them.. but he remembers the smallest details, what she wore, bits of conversations & of course sex together was amazing [the way cyanide explained].. or maybe the smallest mannerism, a smile, a look.. one break of her pose & he melts. he wasnt ready for all of it, maybe she wasnt either but they couldnt deny it. crash course. maybe he pushed her away or his addictions, maybe another girl or his fear, kept him away and also hurt her unintentionally.
but in the end, he should have known.. should have seen.. with her, he's home.. even after everything, they're still the same song
That's weird that you say it sounds like sex because in my opinion Deftones has the best music to have sex to.
i believe this song is about a person finding comfort in another person...and when that special person leaves is like his world of misery shows up again...so the hangin ropes represent the idea of suicide...which he could easily committ...but instead he sees them as something to inspire him to keep goin instead of givin up
I'm not sure what this song means to other people, but I'll share with you all what it means to me. (Long Read)
Every time I hear this song it reminds me of my first romance. It was a long distance relationship that lasted over the course of 5 years. We would rarely ever meet, due to expenses and the difficulties of her family accepting me as a Hispanic man. Every time I made my way to New York her family would go into a rage and we were both always caught in the middle of it.
I remember leaving one night when it got really awful. I sat at the edge of my bed in my hotel room thinking if this was something worth putting her through. Just then she came in the room, wearing a long black coat. She just smiled and disrobed, revealing a dark blue corset. Crawling softly over the bed towards me. I was hypnotized away from the ugliness of intolerance, the boring dramas of existential adulthood, everything. (Soon as you came in all the beast went away/As soon as you came in the agony it went away I noticed what you wore, to everything we spoke and more/It only takes one break of a pose to get off)
We made passionate love that night. Because we really had no idea when we'd actually meet again. Her family knew that she loved me and nothing would keep me from her. (They noticed that your warm, wait till you leave then come back for more.)
(The ropes hang to keep us all awake and I should have known) To me this means marriage, the idea that if we never get married I'd lose her. I knew this to be true but I was so young at the time. The thought would hang over my head.
All of this relates to the rest of the song (To save our place, home with you, still the same song)
Anyway that's my personal take on this.
no fricken idea wut it means but good song
I think this is about drugs... Wicked song tho, best on the new album...
i think this song is about drugs... Wicked song tho, best on the album... err... no... well, it could be.
ok, awsome song but the lyrics go all over the place. maybe it's cause i haven't gotten any in like, a month but i think this song is about sex. i think that the 'beasts' and 'agony' are troubles that the author is having to deal with, all of which melt away when his partner comes close. all 3 verses start with "as soon as you came in", so maybe chino is sitting around having to deal with different shit and as soon as his woman get home, there is more or less an understanding in most relationships that good sex can have a way of making everything better. the main gaveaway, i thought was line 7 "It only takes one break of your pose to get off", for some reason i can't shake this dirty senerio in my mind of a couple having sex and stopping right before climax so as to preserve the feelings and sensations of the build up. sothen they just lay there, unmoving and enjoying the rush of breaking the continous motions. then maybe one of them can't take the suspence any longer and delivers the "deathblow" which sends both (or just one) to the end.
i know this sounds kinda tripped out but if you think i'm bullshitting, next time you are "in the act", try it. just freeze a few moments before coming and try to hold it. i swear it will blow you away if you do it right.
I actually agree... also Chino has been known to have some 'kinky' lyrics, just look at MX and Digital Bath; I think that "the ropes hang" simply refers to BDSM, which is what a lot of people believe MX might be about, or simply masochism.

I honestly can't say FOR CERTAIN the meaning of this one, but I fucking love it regardless.

I think the song is about being in a relationship for a long period of time, and the relationship isn't really bad, but you're just bored with it. The only thing that you still enjoy, and keeps you hanging in(the ropes hang) is the sex. You care about the other person and don't want to hurt their feelings or anything, so you don't break up with them. Hence the lyric "The ropes hang(Sex) to keep us all awake(Keeps the relationship going)"
I think the song is about death, hence the title. The "beast" is the fear and once death came, all the fear is gone. "Soon as you came in, all the beast went away" and its the same with the agony verse. Also i think the chorus is about devices made too keep us alive such as oxygen hoses etc. "The ropes hang to keep us all awake". I am guessing it is about someone who is in agony and just wants out.
