i heard today that you where gone
I had to stop and sing along
The song they played to say goodbye
A song that gave, gave me back life
/Chorus/
Youll never fade
The words you gave
My life you saved
Your name was Layne
And on that day a child was born
To somone who you helped along
And helped see trough his darkest times
Because of you, this child she is mine
/Chorus/
The words you said, you made me feel like they were all for me
The words you said, they will allways be a part of me
The words you said, you made me feel like i was not alone
The words you said, you game me all the strengh to carry on
/Chorus altered/
So to me youll never fade
Your life you game my life
Your name was Layne
I had to stop and sing along
The song they played to say goodbye
A song that gave, gave me back life
Youll never fade
The words you gave
My life you saved
Your name was Layne
To somone who you helped along
And helped see trough his darkest times
Because of you, this child she is mine
The words you said, they will allways be a part of me
The words you said, you made me feel like i was not alone
The words you said, you game me all the strengh to carry on
Your life you game my life
Your name was Layne

A song that he wrote to Layne of Alice in Chains, but its kind of ironic because its a song that many staind fans could write to aaron in the same way that he felt about Layne
I couldn't say it any better then Pretzel did, pretty much a dedication song to the late, great Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, ironically, the same day Layne died is also the same day Aaron's baby girl, Zoe Jane was born.
Holy shit, I almost cried like a fuckin' baby when I heard this song. Layne Staley was my hero. Good to see other people feel the same way.
"We pay our debts sometime"
Both Pretzel0021 and saroknight said it right. And it's cool how the song is so much like an Alice in Chains song. Usually I'll listen to a whole album a few times before I even dabble into the lyrics. I didn't even notice this song was titled Layne or dedicated (obviously I figured that out by the title) to the singer. But I definitely thought it sounded just like an Alice in Chains song. It's good to see how music is so powerful in which it passes down the line through so many people. The beauty within songs have saved my life as well, and its awesome to see that it has done the same to the very artists that have reached out to us!
What's strange is that Zoe Jane Lewis was born the same day Layne Staley of Alice in Chains passed away, April 5, 2002, and exactly eight years earlier, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana was also killed. I found this at http://ubl.artistdirect.com/music/artist/bio/0,,496485,00.html?artist=Layne+Staley. AIC was one of Lewis' favorite bands before he joined a band himself, and listening to them helped him through hard times so he wouldn't feel as bad. And because he pulled through, he's still alive and now has a family.
i thought layne died on april 20

sorry about that, i take that back, you were right the first time. i'm thinking of the Pearl Jam song "4/20/02" which was the date Vedder heard about Layne's passing. why did it take him 15 days to find out? constant touring? anyway i digress. MegaMadMan is right and God bless Layne's tortured soul OOO

They didn't find him for two weeks, which is why Eddie found out on the 20th. (I know it's a year late, but I couldn't help but reply.)
