Lonely Wind Lyrics
When I'm needin' a friend I can talk to the wind
God I sure am glad that I found him
Sometimes he seems to be the only one beside me
Who can feel the Lord's breath all around him
Winter's cold frozen ice or a bright autumn day
On a warm summer night you can hear him say
CHORUS
Cry for me, sigh for me, sad breezes flow
Stay for me, play for me, the song my friends will know
My lonely wind must blow
Mighty friend that is mine, can you give me a sign?
He'll leave nothing but only to hear him
I've seen the tall trees bend low when his mighty winds blow
And that's all the more reason I fear him
Hear him call for the earth lonely I can feel his great pain
But on the eve of this day
I'll join in his refrain
CHORUS
When I'm needing a friend I'll remember the wind
And my life here with the breezes of sorrow
I'll be leaving himoon 'cause I've got to make room
For the lonely that will find him tomorrow
On a black stormy night in your bosom I'll cling
And I'll know I've found love and the last song we'll sing
CHORUS
God I sure am glad that I found him
Sometimes he seems to be the only one beside me
Who can feel the Lord's breath all around him
Winter's cold frozen ice or a bright autumn day
On a warm summer night you can hear him say
Cry for me, sigh for me, sad breezes flow
Stay for me, play for me, the song my friends will know
My lonely wind must blow
He'll leave nothing but only to hear him
I've seen the tall trees bend low when his mighty winds blow
And that's all the more reason I fear him
Hear him call for the earth lonely I can feel his great pain
But on the eve of this day
I'll join in his refrain
And my life here with the breezes of sorrow
I'll be leaving himoon 'cause I've got to make room

And I'll know I've found love and the last song we'll sing

I have no idea. This song feels really sad. I think that he feels lonely and the wind is the only person who cares. Or the wind could be a metaphor. Or the wind is the one who's sad. I really don't want to analyze it very much.
I love this song. I put it on when I feel sad, and it doesn't make me happy, but I won't feel lonely anymore. I can't believe that 62 people commented on the other wind song from Kansas, but in 4 years, I'm the only one for this one. I think the comments need to be more spread out.
I believe this song is clearly about the singer's connection to god. The wind is god, all around him, there to speak to when he's needing a friend. The references to dieing and making room for the next sorrow to find "Him" is referring to death and heaven where, presumably the singer and god will be together.
Kansas' music is full of deeply religious connotations. I believe at least most of the original members of Kansas must have been quite religious.
Despite this, they are one of my favorite bands.
@Paly Despite this ? Embrace their spirituality, don't reject or doubt or deny. As comedian Marc Maron said :"There are no atheist soup kitchens."
