| Kansas – Lonely Wind Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I believe this song is clearly about the singer's connection to god. The wind is god, all around him, there to speak to when he's needing a friend. The references to dieing and making room for the next sorrow to find "Him" is referring to death and heaven where, presumably the singer and god will be together. Kansas' music is full of deeply religious connotations. I believe at least most of the original members of Kansas must have been quite religious. Despite this, they are one of my favorite bands. |

| Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Wish You Were Here (song and complete album) is about Pink floyd and their experience entering the music industry. Consider Welcome to the Machine: The machine is the industry. Have a cigar, you're going to go far... You're going to fly high... And by the way, which one's pink? These are cuts of the conversation of the band meeting the exec from the studio. The exec doesn't care who they are, just that they are flying high, making money. the band quickly sees itself becoming a pawn of the business, as we all know, contrary to their very moral fabric. The original cover art is of business-suits shaking hands. One on fire. Symbols of the jagged edge of the music industry. Wish you were here, the song, opens up with the sound of a radio, being tuned in, then the guitar. We are mere listeners at first, but when the sound turns full, we now are part of the song. It rings well in the ear. sounds good. Like we're right there. He's speaking to us. Then, we're invited, in a perverse way, to walk in their shoes. It's not a pleasant invitation. It's sinister. So you think you can tell? Well let me tell you, he's saying, being up here on stage isn't all fun and glory. In the end, we all just lost souls, in a fish bowl...What the song is saying here, is that we don't know how the band feels. We just don't understnd. Did we exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in the cage (one hell for another)? And perhaps the end, what have we found, the same old fears, wish you were here, refers to that in the end, we're all the same. We all know the band to be progressive and avant garde (is that term even used anymore?), they were rebels. They didn't see themselves fitting into the bebop bubblegum what have you music industry. They were artists. just my humble opinion. |
