For I Am The Way Lyrics
For I am the way,
Burn all effigies of clay,
Walk on water today,
For I am the way (x2)
Today I turn my blood to sweetest wine,
A holy song imbued with the divine,
Today's the day the gods walk out on me,
The great divide is crossed for you by me,
For I am the way,
Burn all effigies of clay,
Walk on water today,
For I am the way (x2)
Today the silent one does have her say,
Today all contradictions seem o.k..,
Today's the day that I become the sky,
A silent understanding my oh my,
For I am the way,
Burn all effigies of clay,
Walk on water today,
For I am the way (x2)
Today for once I'm not the last to learn,
Today the only bridge I have I burn,
Today's the day the gods walk out on me,
The great divide is crossed for you by me,
For I am the way (x4)
Burn all effigies of clay,
Walk on water today,
For I am the way (x2)
A holy song imbued with the divine,
Today's the day the gods walk out on me,
The great divide is crossed for you by me,
Burn all effigies of clay,
Walk on water today,
For I am the way (x2)
Today all contradictions seem o.k..,
Today's the day that I become the sky,
A silent understanding my oh my,
Burn all effigies of clay,
Walk on water today,
For I am the way (x2)
Today the only bridge I have I burn,
Today's the day the gods walk out on me,
The great divide is crossed for you by me,

this is one of my favourite songs ever, katy's voice is otherworldly. "today's the day that i become the sky" that always reminds me of suicide for some reason.
If anyone read the Kerrang! interview: "Tales of Ordinary Madness" with Katie Jane then you will probably have a deeper insight into the meaning of this song. Katie talked about how sometimes she feels like she is the only thing that is real and everything else has been created by her imagination, so in this world she is either God or nothing. Jesus is often referred to as "the way" and through the chorus of this song "For I am the way, burn all effigies of clay" I think Katie Jane is speaking about her beleif in this polarity. She uses a lot of religious imagery to convey that sometimes she must feel above it all, looking down on her 'creations'. As ladyboygrrl mentioned "Today's the day that i become the sky' could be a reference to suicide and floating up to Heaven, it could also be another allegory with the death of Jesus Christ and His ascension into Heaven. This is an extremely haunting song, Katie Jane Garside is truly a genius and she has the most beautiful voice. I love this band!!
i never thought about it like that...but it makes so much sense. "walk on water today" and "today i turn my blood to sweetest wine".
I think it's about what a relief it would be for evreything to be over and to be dead. I also think it's about how people think of you when you're dead. 'Today the silent one does have her say'- I think that's saying, 'now you listen to me'. It might be about being part of some sort of heaven through taking your own life.
im not sure what the songs actual meaning is, but it makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. its strange. no other song can make me feel like that. and it always reminds me of when i was sitting on the balchony in ibiza, all by myself, just watching the big blue sky and listenin to this song on my headphones. And the part that says "todays the day, that i become the sky" almost brought me to tears. So i think i could agree with PrettyLittleRosie in that i think this song is about a relief. Like,it would be such a relief to die.
Definate christ reference there. "For I am the way, Burn all effigies of clay, Walk on water today, For I am the way (x2)" Also a couple of others mixed in. Anyway, beautiful song. i especially like when she sings "burn all effigies of clay." One of my favourite songs on the album
