Monument Lyrics

aren’t you gonna come along?
aren’t you gonna fight?
aren’t you gonna hold your hands up to the light?

if you feel an emptiness,
if you want to hide,
think about the blood that's pumping, keeping you alive

we’ve got it all worked out
the plans all made
if we believe in the fight then we're all saved
it's gonna hurt for a while
but it would anyways
let us stand resolute with our voices raised
we have a right to insist
to be free and brave
if that should cease to exist, i'd
throw my heart away

so aren’t you gonna come along?
aren’t you gonna fight?
aren’t you gonna hold your hands up to the light?

if you feel an emptiness
if you want to hide
think about the blood that's pumping, keeping you alive

it’s a long, long way till the promised land
so try where you are, do what you can
you belong to what you understand
so teach yourself how to demand
the monument that you deserve
for rising up in the beaten down world

aren’t you gonna come along?
aren’t you gonna fight?
aren’t you gonna hold your hands up to the light?

if you feel an emptiness
if you want to hide
think about the blood that's pumping, keeping you alive.

i think this song is actually apples in the trees. it's confusing because there are two tracks called 'make it hot' but only one is listed on the back of the album. either way, it's 'let us stand resolute with our voices raised' and a 'beaten down world'

hm, i'm pretty sure this song is in fact called "monument" but i could, of course, be wrong. this song is lovely, i am so jealous of rxqueen.

This is Monument. She also plays it with the Black Cat Orchestra on "To All We Stretch The Open Arm"

I like the Black Cat Orchestra version better. Her voice seems more raw.

this seems to me a song about the struggle over the deprivation of rights and social stigmas associated with the gay community.

'if we believe in the fight then we're all saved... let us stand resolute with our voices raised we have a right to insist to be free and brave'

this song is in fact about the mobilization and protest politics associated in her life as she said at one of the live shows i was at. i too assumed it was about the gay community as pocket cat said
