Wretched Songs Lyrics

My heart it sits inside me
It don't know we said good bye
You see it's having trouble feeling good
The way it did, the way it should
I know it knows that something's wrong
It hears me play these awful songs
Its having trouble feeling good
The way it did, the way it should

My heart it sits inside me
It don't realizes we said goodbye
It's having trouble feeling good
The way it did the way it should
I know it knows that something's wrong
It hears me play these wretched songs
Its having trouble feeling good
The way it did, the way it should

While I like the slow part of the song very much, I think the fast one is quite trivial. But I think they have done it on purpose, as the "awful songs" in the lyrics refer to exactly this part. What a genious one should be to write boring melodies on purpose. And Lytle is of course! I am curious whether someone share the same idea, so let me know!

Yes, I agree, the contrast is definitely seen there. It seems like it fits with a sort of subtext of writer's block, which as a musician I can sort of feel the same way that when I am trying to do something musically interesting but I am lacking inspiration I end up doing something just really repetitive, with an attempt at energy, but a fast pace isn't indicative of creative energy really.

On some days when I am less patient I do just skip to the parts that are built around the vocals.

I hear what both you guys are saying, but he does do this live on The Windfall Varietal album and calls it a really depressing song. I think depressing for him, perhaps, because those moments of inspiration are far and few between as time goes by, and what if they altogether disappear. Writer's block 100%, maybe that's why he called it quits with Grandaddy for a while. Probably not because his solo albums are absolutely inspired and fantastic. Jason Lytle is definitely a genius when it comes to his poetic songwriting skills, and of course his music that lines right up with those lyrics. Love this man, he is an inspiration for sure.
