The Treason Wall Lyrics

Let me tell you about the loss of all
the failing of all that we hold dear
Wrapped up nicely in ourselves

Chaos resolves
that which order defiles
Worthless lives
are ordered blind

I don't believe
Taste and you will see
that all belongs to me
I don't believe
I won't believe

I raise my hand against it all
for those who don't recognize the call
Will the sense to overcome these nestled walls
Going to break it down

Let me nail you to the treason wall
stab the night and the day from your sight
And set the thought to flame

Feeble devout
nothing resides
Break it to pieces
that obstinate mind

I raise my fist to hold the line
Against those who set themselves on high
Going to break it down

Then face the anxiety here and now

I think DT are saying that organized religion holds people back. Why believe what's fed to us, without even questioning it? Why believe in a God when you can believe in yourself?

This song is probably just religion-bashing, but in an intellignet fashion. I like the chorus. Religion is described as a wall which must be torn down, though it surprises me that DT would write about religion in such a negative light.

I think its more to shatter your wall that blocks you, and face the anxiety instead of holding it back. You would rather feel anxiety then not feel anything.

It's against organized religion, specifically. Organized religion is more likely a wall blocking the road to individual spirituality. And thus, why it should be torn down.

  • We are all the same, humans, there's no god above us, or higher

I don't know where you get that absurd idea from, but "those who set themselves on high" are obviously priest and other religious preachers... it doesn't mean God or Gods...

When performing the song live, Mikael says it's about "atheism and rational thinking". This ties into my interpretation that organized religion causes harm, and we should decide for ourselves what we believe in instead of letting others tell us.
