Ketchy Shuby Lyrics

COME MAKE WE PLAY SOME
KETCHY SHUBY
AND WHEN ME SHUBY
YOU FEEL KETCHY

AND WHEN YOU'RE KETCHY
DON'T MAKE IT DROP
'CAUSE IF IT DROP
IT WILL POP

AND IF IT POP
NO ONE CAN MEND IT
'CAUSE IF THEY MEND IT
YOU CAN EASILY BEND IT

CHORUS
SO WE AH GO
KETCHY, KETCHY
SHUBY SHUBY
TONIGHT
ALL NIGHT LONG
(2X)
TELL ME IF YOU LIKE IT

IT DON'T TAKE TOO LONG TO LEARN
JUST YOU DO AS I SAY
I MAY ONLY TAKE ONE HOURS OR TWO
AND BY THE NEXT TIME YOU WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO

CHORUS

REPEAT FIRST 3 VERSES

CHORUS
YOUR MAMA DON'T LIKE IT
KETCHY(2X) SHUBY(2X) TONIGHT(KKSSTN)
YOUR PAPA DON'T LIKE IT
(KKSSTN)
LONG TIME I'M WAITIN
(KKSSTN)
GET YOU RIGHT WHERE YOU'RE

(KKSSTN).....

The song is actually about sex. Just read the lyrics: "If it pop, no one can mend it/ Cuz if dem mend it, you can easily bend it." That's about taking a girl's virginity. The female partner in the song has never had sex before, and Peter is helping her through it, assuring her that it's not hard to do. It's not a dirty song at all, it's about sex in its purest form. But yeah, this song is all about sex; this isn't even my interpretation, it's just what the song is actually about.

This is a simple song about love-making. "Ketchy" (catch) refers to the man's part in love-making. "Shuby" (shove or push) refers to the man's part. "Don't make it drop" refers to the woman not letting it fall. "It will pop" refers to the man ejaculating. "No one can mend it" the problem can not be remedied. "Can easily bend it" the penis is limp after ejaculation. The rest is pretty self-explanatory. The third and fourth line should read, "When me shuby, you fe ketchy," meaning, "When I push, you must catch it.

Ketchy Shuby is a way of singing "Catchy Shubby". Catchy Shubby is a Jamaican game that is similar to Cricket, only much faster moving, and much more fun. The song is not about sex, or drugs as the postings above claim. Instead, it is about having fun with a group of friends and playing a field/street game that was very popular in Jamaica. Tosh refers to learning the rules of the game. There are no written rule books for Catchy Shubby, so everyone has to learn by oral communication of local rules or by playing for a few hours with a team to figure out the rules of play.

Neither the cricket variation nor sex interpretation is convincing. First, cricket is played during the day and not at night. Few, if any, cricket fields have lights. For example, the main cricket stadium in Jamaica, Kensington Oval, does not have lights. So how can you play a game similar to baseball without lights all night long? Second, since cricket is the Jamaican national sport, and second most popular sport in the world (after soccer), why would mama and papa not like it?

The lyrics suggest "ketchy shuby" is not a term or words intended to be construed together but two separate words each with their own meaning. It also suggests cause and effect, that is, when one person becomes shuby and the other feels ketchy. The lyrics primarily are about the person who feels ketchy and not the person who has become shuby.

The lyrics indicate the shuby person is advising the ketchy feeling person not to let "it" drop. What does sex or taking a woman's virginity have anything to do with dropping? The effect of dropping "it" causes a popping sound, suggesting that "it" is something fragile.

To me, the lyrics are unclear. The lyrics proclaims that if "it" pops, "it" cannot be mended. The next verse, however, suggests "it" can be mended but that such mending would cause it to be easily bent. A plausible conclusion is that "it" is a solid object that is difficult to bend but one that becomes malleable if it is dropped and a popping sound occurs.

So we a go ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight All night long we a go ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight Your mama don't like it, ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight Your papa don't like it, ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight Long time I'm waiting, ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight Get you right where your ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight All night long we a go ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight Me and you a go ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight Tell me if you like it, ketchy-ketchy, shuby-shuby tonight All night long, all night long, shuby-shuby tonight Shuby-shuby tonight...

If you don't realize this song is about sex, you are quite frankly an idiot.

If you listen to the song which includes the beat, the melody, and the words. You can clearly hear that this song is about making love. If you only read the words and dont actually listen to this song. You will never understand that this song is so much about sexing and nothing else! I have to agree with "A-L-B" 100% He could'nt have put it any better than that! This is one of my top favorite songs by Peter Tosh by far!!

I agree absolutely with you. No doubt that it's a song about sex, just listen to it...

Referring to this verse:

AND IF IT POP NO ONE CAN MEND IT 'CAUSE IF THEY MEND IT YOU CAN EASILY BEND IT

I guess "it" is his penis ... Do you agree?

Equal rights and justice!

These comments testify to the quality of the song; you're all correct! The song has imparted something unique to each listener; it's custom, 'made-to-order' genius, straight up.

The fourth line should read, "You fe ketchy." That is Jamaican Patois meaning, "You should catch it." It is not, "You feel ketchy."
