Daphne Descends

To me, this song means: you are in love with some one you shouldn't have loved Daphne is the one that Appolo shouldn't have loved.

Having you ever fell in love with some one, who seemed had painfully fell for you as well, who then told you he's married and his wife is in another city.

His wife came reunion with him, she could never see him again, she missed him too much and was in such pain that she could only see him outside his house, through the window.

The kisses were hassle, but perfect ones. She would never forget the smell of his perfume.

She just loved him so but there's nothing she could do. She met him way too late. The feelings were all true but there's nothing she could do.

That's what have happened to many people I guess, including me. I "come apart to intertwine" for almost every day of the past one year.

This song can take on a variety of different view points. First, it can come from a jealous boyfriend who sees his girl drifting away, spending suspicious amounts of time with another guy, losing interest in you ("You love him, and you can't resist"). Guys aren't stupid. They know when this is happening to them, and this song really puts it perfectly.

Or it can come from the outsider himself. I fell for a girl in high school who had a boyfriend, she was really sweet, but completely misguided and sort of depressed. She led me on for a whole year, always talking about how crappy her boyfriend was and how she was in love with me and would bring up ridiculous ideas about how we would run away together (fantastical idealism, what do you expect), constantly breaking up and getting back together with him in the same week/day (typical high school crap) blah blah. I liked to believe what she said but this song spoke what was really going on, what I knew was the truth the whole time. No matter how much of a jerk her boyfriend was, "(she) loved him, and no one else."

Adore was one of those albums that got me through times of extreme teen angst, and I will never forget how therapeutic it really was.

I think this song is about a girl who falls in love with a boy, but the boy doesn't love her back. So girl KIDNAPS boy and forces him to love her, or she will kill him. These kids are still teenagers, so the boy has to face loving someone just to survive, or to be cut away from a life he hasn't fully experienced, and die

I think it's easy to forget this song follows musically from Perfect. Perfect feels to me written from the man's perspective, about a relationship gone wrong but still "friends" (Perfect strangers when we meet / Strangers on the street / Lovers when we sleep) - Maybe the woman was a bit cold and couldn't quite requite the love, at least how the man perceives it?

Then Daphne Descends, harkening to the Apollo and Daphne story, explains this unrequited love from the woman's perspective - she desperately WANTED him but the inner conflict was too much, and now he's gone. Feels like the tragedy of an introverted woman unable to step out of her head until it's too late.

this song is one of my favourites from 'adore' as it just seems to end to soon, and that's when you know it's a good song. i has a spooky yet beautiful feel about it. anyways, that's what i think...

I think the actual literal meaning came from the Roman myth of Daphne and Pluto or Persephone and Hades in the Greek tradition. Daphne was kidnapped (spy the kidnapped kid) by Pluto and taken into the underworld to be his wife (who kids you to oblivion/darkness in your room). Daphne is allowed to come back to the world to visit her mother and home (this boy is here and gone) which is supposed to explain the changing seasons. The song is definitely a love song and I guess it's about Daphne falling in love with her captor (he makes you miss him more than home).

this is one of my favorite pumpkins songs, if not my favorite. i agree with rockstar001 (especially on the beauty of the song itself), but could it also be a story of unrequited love?

"you love him, you love him for yourself you love him and no one, no one else"

"it was all so simple as you watched him move across the darkness in your room"

he's saying how easy it was for her to fall in love with the "him". (it seems like a stretch but i was in a similar situation and thats why i read it like that)

"you will lose him then on some gentle dawn this boy is here and gone"

At the same time, though, he knows that the other guy she loves will leave her.

the rest of the song just seems to have a very sad undertone, and the music itself is very negative (if you listen to the guitar between perfect and this, it goes from being happy to sad sounding) and thats why it seems to me that the speaker himself is sad, not just that it's a sad situation.

i dunno, thats always been my take on it. was there a video? i thought i read something about some video for it being in black and white and being about an abusive relationship but i'm not sure... would love to see one for it though
