Ask Lyrics
Shyness is nice, but shyness can stop you
From doing all the things in life that you'd like to
So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me, I won't say no (how could I?)
Coyness is nice, but coyness can stop you
From saying all the things in life you'd like to
So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me, I won't say no (how could I?)
Spending warm summer days indoors
Writing frightening verse
To a buck-toothed girl in Luxembourg
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Because if it's not love, then it's the bomb
That will bring us together
Nature is a language, can't you read?
Nature is a language, can't you read?
So ask me, ask me, ask me
Ask me, ask me, ask me
Because if it's not love, then it's the bomb
That will bring us together...
From doing all the things in life that you'd like to
So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me, I won't say no (how could I?)
From saying all the things in life you'd like to
So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me, I won't say no (how could I?)
Writing frightening verse
To a buck-toothed girl in Luxembourg
Ask me, ask me, ask me
That will bring us together
Nature is a language, can't you read?
Ask me, ask me, ask me
That will bring us together...

Morrissey is trying to say that if love won't bring them together, then "the bomb"/war/destruction is the only thing powerful enough to do it.
It's a clever take on how humans bond. We're at our best when we're at extremes.
this song helped me stop being shy and finally do what I've always wanted to: run naked in the street covered in milk and honey. thanks Morrissey...
it means so much, i received it from a very special person and since then i can get it out of my head, i haved listened it more than a thousand times and can listen it over an over again for the rest of my life, i have all the versions, all the lyrics and still dont have enough of it, maybe i need a special concert for myself and she...thanks for special songs like this
How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Smiths...
I would definitely agree with the Dr. Strangelove reference in "the bomb will bring us together." I would also agree with a previous post regarding "writting frightening verse to a buck-toothed girl in Luxemburg" paralleling to internet relationships or even webservices like songmeanings where numerous anonymous (and possible shy, coy) people are diverting their energies from things that really matter and that would bring them real joy... Oh well, I've already started this post, may as well finish. (coy)
Just to take Moz's advice on this one - my Friday evening is wide open... Would anyone like to see a picture show? (coyX2)
I always thought it was "bond" and not "bomb." I mean, doesn't it make more sense for people to be brought together by a common bond, maybe shyness? I dunno. Then again, I used to think "son and the heir" was "Sun and the air."
...the story of my life.
...the story of my life.
It took my probably a year to find out it wasn't 'the sun and the air'. And then another year (today) when I find it's bomb not bond!

I also thought it was "bond," and I agree that it makes more sense that way. But I thought the "it" was sex...I was assuming the question related to sex, and that, if it wasn't out of love, then the sex itself would bring them together.

... it thought he was saying bong ..whoops!
I always thought it was "the bum" too...I loved this song when I was a wee girl and that was my reason for doing so! Hah.
I still love it though, whether it be bomb or bong or bum, or whatever the hell it is...
This song depicts how shyness and coyness can restrict you. Morrissey is telling you to free yourself of your inhibitions - dare to do what you wish, and it assures you'll get results.
I think it says it's the bond that will bring us together. I think it's about how sex will bring them together. It's like, don't be shy, ask me to do things (sexual acts) and I will, but if you're shy, then you won't have the courage to, and it will bring us together. But maybe my mind's just in the gutter.
Its definatley bomb, but sang so that bond could be interpreted, good poetry always tried to give dual meanings, even in individual words, and music is the finest form of poetry... :P
