Check The Meaning Lyrics
When I'm low, and I'm weak, and I'm lost, I don't know who I can trust,
Paranoia, the destroyer, a comes knocking on my door,
You know the pain, drifts to days, turns to nights, but it slowly will subside,
And when it does, I'll take a step, I'll take a breath, and wonder what I'll find.
Can you hear what I'm saying,
Got my mind meditating on love, love,
Feel what I'm saying,
Got my mind meditating on love, love
The human condition, the human condition.
Too much blood, too much hate, turn off the set, there's gotta be something more,
When Mohamed, Allah, Buddah, Jesus Christ, are knockin' down my door,
I'm agnostic, in God, but man, she takes a female form,
There's no time, no space, no law, we're out here on our own.
Can you hear what I'm saying,
Got my mind meditating on love, love,
Feel what I'm saying,
Got my mind meditating on love, love.

Yes it's life, doing its thing, making you cry, making you think,
Yeah life, dealing its hand, making you cry and you don't understand,
Life's, doing its thing, making you cry now making you think of,
Thing, doing its thing, making you cry yeah making you sing.
Don't say it, don't say it's too late, don't, don't say it's too late, don't, don't say it's too late, don't, don't say it's too late.

That's my reality, and while the city sleeps, we go walking, come on, it's a beautiful world.
And when the city sleeps, we go walking, we find a hole in the sky, and then we start talking, and then you say, Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ, buy us some time, buy us some time, hear what I'm saying, can you hear what I'm saying, can you hear what I'm saying, can you hear what I'm saying...

It is about looking for meaning in life by turning to things that don’t seem to help (me) like religion and things of the like.
i love the guitar part... the music he's been involved with always has the coolest background melodies and effects...
This song is so inspiring; has anyone seen the video clip? So sad and sweet. This is song about finding TRUTH in this meaninless world, and a calling for human compassion; for it is based on "the human condition- a big decision".
could be about many things. never knowing who you can trust properly
Is it just me, or does this song not feel like it goes on for eight minutes while you're listening to it? It doesn't feel like it drags or anything.
No, it feels just right at the album-version length, or even like it could go on longer without wearing thin. As for the lyric, some of his most powerful words. When he says things, they resonate. Most versions I've seen say "I'm Agnostic/Getting God/But man, she takes a female form". To me that's the only confusing part of the lyric. How is he agnostic or Getting God, and then able to declare that there's nothing at all; that we're out here on our own (in the next line)? So apart from the muddled religious references, a classic humanist lyric.

Great song, but his live version is amazing just him and guitar. He sounds really good.....look for it on you tube. Its all about beliefs.....and questions about our beliefs and not ever really knowing.. He actually wears a cross around his neck frequently. So I think what hes saying is that none of us know what were talking about and that it doesnt really matter if we are religious or not... We are all human and this focus is on that.....
this song is so amazingly powerful! it's socially relevant especially during these times when the war is breaking out and differences in religion are tearing people apart... i see this song as a message of peace and hope but i'm not sure if it might mean something else
Richard Ashcroft is simply amazing. His lyrics are so meaningful. Songs like Bittersweet Symphony, The Drugs Dont Work and Luckyman are brilliantly written songs. The verve have always been one of my favourite bands.
A song with a great message. "You know the pain, drifts to days, turns to nights, but it slowly will subside, And when it does, I'll take a step, I'll take a breath, and wonder what I'll find." is on my fridge and I read it when I need to.
