No, it feels just right at the album-version length, or even like it could go on longer without wearing thin. As for the lyric, some of his most powerful words. When he says things, they resonate. Most versions I've seen say "I'm Agnostic/Getting God/But man, she takes a female form". To me that's the only confusing part of the lyric. How is he agnostic or Getting God, and then able to declare that there's nothing at all; that we're out here on our own (in the next line)? So apart from the muddled religious references, a classic humanist lyric. |
