Frankie And Albert Lyrics
frankie and albert were sweet hearts
lord how they could love
their bound to love another
baby underneath the stars above
it was her man, he was doing her wrong
well, frankie went down to the bar room
to fetch herself a bucket of beer
the bartender said ms. frankie, you;re lovin man was here
it was your man, he was doing you wrong
the bartender said ms frankie, girl i can't tell you no lies
your husband left about an hour ago with that hussie nelly bly
it was your'e man,
well, he was doing your wrong
well, frankie she cried and cried and cried
lord what have i done
i done give enough lovin to my man
it was my man, and he was doing me wrong
well, i saw frankie, comming
said lordy don't you shoot
but from out of that red camero, a rooty shoot shoot , she shot that man, cause he was doing her wrong
a boo hoo , boo hoo , a boo hoo, boo hoo
baby what have i done
i done shot the only man i loved with a gold 41
i shot my man, cause he was doing me wrong
frankie and albert were sweet hearts
lord how they could love
their bound to love another
baby underneath the stars above
it was her man, he was doing her wrong

the first time i listened to this song i didn't think the that jack wrote the lyrics. so i ran a search and bob dylan wrote a song called frankie and albert. the lyrics in jack's song aren't the exact same, but they tell the same story.

Actually I believe this song comes from the blues singer Taj Mahal, could be wrong though
there are a lot of versions of this song... bob dylan just arranged another version of this song - which is awesome. jack johnson heard the taj mahal version from some punk guy that jack was a big fan of and he learned how to play it... you can download some commentary about the song from the jack johnson website... it's the track before he sings this song.
this song originated from an old blues man that died in the mid 1900s by the name Huddie Ledbetter i recommend you check him out he also wrote the song in the pines (where did you sleep last night) that kurt cobain sang in unplugged
The one thing you guys all need to know about blues is that many songs are recorded by many artists.
Jack Johnson credits Taj Mahal for this song, but what he doesnt mention, perhaps he doesnt know, is that Missippi John Heart, who predates all of these artists, including leadbelly (by about 45 years), wrote a song much like this called frankie and albert.
I said "much like this song" in that it is this song, but vastly differnt then the newer versions.
edit
Leadbelly is...was a lot older then i thought he was.
