It's Good to Be in Love Lyrics
I don't know where to start
Say I'm tired or throw a party
These cucumber eyes are lying
The more that I smile about it
And all of my clothes feel like somebody's old throwaways
I don't like it
It's good to be in love
It really does suit you
Just like everything
I'm happy you're in love
Cause every colour goes where you do
I'm adoring you, it's all good
You're so beautiful, I'm black and blue all over
You're breaking my flow
How could you know what I'm saying about it?
(When all of my clothes feel like somebody's old throwaways)
I don't like it
It's good to be in love, I feel so powerless, I
I've got to stop it somehow
Oh, come on, what can I do?
(Why's it happening?)
How's it happening without me?
How's it happening that he feels it without me?
It's good to be in love
Say I'm tired or throw a party
These cucumber eyes are lying
The more that I smile about it
And all of my clothes feel like somebody's old throwaways
I don't like it
It's good to be in love
It really does suit you
Just like everything
I'm happy you're in love
Cause every colour goes where you do
I'm adoring you, it's all good
You're so beautiful, I'm black and blue all over
You're breaking my flow
How could you know what I'm saying about it?
(When all of my clothes feel like somebody's old throwaways)
I don't like it
It's good to be in love, I feel so powerless, I
I've got to stop it somehow
Oh, come on, what can I do?
(Why's it happening?)
How's it happening without me?
How's it happening that he feels it without me?

she's in love with someone who's in love with someone else.
on the one side, she is happy simply because he's happy. she wouldn't risk losing whatever little she has of him by acting on her feelings, or coming between him and the other person. she's willing to disregard her emotions because he deserves to be in love, even if it's not with her.
however, there's another more selfish side of her that can't stand to see him being in love with anyone else. ("how's it happening without me?") she tries to smile and hide the fact that it's hurting her, but she just can't help but feel second best. ("when all of my clothes feel like somebody's old throwaways")
the song is about the struggle between the two sides. ("i don't know where to start; say i'm tired, or throw a party")
at least that's what it means to me. ^^
In my opinion, this song seems to me like it's about domestic violence. Some tell-tale lyrics are: "cucumber eyes" and "black and blue all over," and pretty much the entire verse that begins with "...I feel so powerless//I've got to stop it somehow."
It strikes me as such because I've often heard from battered women that she loves her partner intensely, even though he abuses her; that may be illustred by the lyric, "I'm adoring you//it's all good..," etc. To her, the violence and abuse is part of being in love, thus "it's good to be in love."
...Just my take on it. =]
"cucumber eyes" she's been crying so much that her eyes are puffy, so she puts cucumbers on her eyes to help sooth them and hopefully hide that she's been crying
To me, this song is the perfect anthem for anyone whose significant other has left them for someone else. At least that's what it means to me.
"These cucumber eyes are lying the more that I smile about it." Perhaps she remained close to him even after the relationship ended, and she chooses to grin and bear it because she'd rather have him as a friend than not have him in her life at all, even if he hurt her. So she chooses to smile, even though she's lying to herself. I agree with Quailman, "I'm happy you're in love" would really mean... "I'm not happy at all."
and "How's it happening that he feels it without me?" She can't understand how he could ever love someone else after he's loved her. She feels like she can't go on without him, so why should he be able to go on without her?
The song sounds so uplifting, but it's really quite upsetting.
"cucumber eyes" - cucumbers are green, green eyes are jealousy. Maybe?
I totally agree with some of the comments on here - this is totally about unrequited love. I LOVE this song so much, because I can really apply it to myself. There's a special someone I've fallen head over heels for, but has no idea whatsoever. In fact, he's in a relationship, which puts all the more sense into this song. What's scary too, is that he has green eyes (cucumber eyes).
I'm adoring you, it's all good You're so beautiful, I'm black and blue all over You're breaking my flow How could you know what I'm saying about it?
I don't like it It's good to be in love, I feel so powerless, I I've got to stop it somehow Oh, come on, what can I do? (Why's it happening?) How's it happening without me? How's it happening that he feels it without me? It's good to be in love (NOT!)
Better to be in love than out, even though it most often stinks/you pay for something you don't get.
so, is she saying that her guy is in love and she's not and she's sorta frustrated about it? what's all the business about being black and blue all over and breaking her flow?
Good interpetation, luna :)
not much feedback. thats weird.
this song makes me sad. i still like it...
