As The Worm Turns Lyrics
One day you're thinking that maybe you're feeling better
And you're probably an okay person, if only you had a job...
Through the hollow tombs can see them
Through their mouths I can hear them praying for pain
But it's only a game
Listen, man, I know
That things are really rough
And everybody gets you
And life is really tough
But I know that deep down inside
There's a feeling that rides
All the way to the end
Thursday you sit in your room with the lights turned out
And you don't answer the door
Friday morning looks sunny and bright
Like it's going to be a good day
And it would be if only you had a job
Time is on your side, you're young
Don't waste your time today
And you're probably an okay person, if only you had a job...
Through the hollow tombs can see them
Through their mouths I can hear them praying for pain
But it's only a game
That things are really rough
And everybody gets you
And life is really tough
But I know that deep down inside
There's a feeling that rides
All the way to the end
And you don't answer the door
Friday morning looks sunny and bright
Like it's going to be a good day
And it would be if only you had a job
Don't waste your time today

Basically a song about the misery and low self esteem of being unemployed. But dont let it get you down.. you have your whole life ahead of you.
i love the lyrics to this song. 'the worm turns' is like a proverb used for when someones luck changes
evidence, midlife crises, and a small victory all kick this songs ass. Goog song though. I agree with crack hitler about the meaning.
Does anyone know what the title means?
I'd say yeah, it means that don't waste your life because you're down on things. That life is going to be tough but to keep on with it.
I love this song.
At any moment and any time the most successful person could lose everything that they have in an instant. So I'd say that this is about not feeling down that you don't have a job because worrying about it never helps anything. You never know what could happen!
i like the mosely version better, and i think the real thing would have been better w/ him on vox, not until angel dust were pattons vocals really good, hes just too whiney earlier on. Not mature sounding enough.
@necrophage I love Patton's vocals on the studio cuts of The Real Thing but listening to live recordings from that era are a little rough.

But on this song he's not whiney or nasal at all.
yeah, bongo on your eralier post you forgot to mention epic on your list of aprecciated but crappier songs.
This song has a great, classical sounding keyboard riff that's a blast to play. Though it's easy to cramp up if you're a beginner that doesn't yet have great piano finger technique. (It was one of the first riffs I taught myself when I started playing keyboards, so I know)
I can really relate to this song right now, as an unemployed Manic Depressive.
