Jesus Lyrics
Long time ago
Theyre still calling him Jesus
Dont you know
They crossed the wood and hanged him
A long time ago
They still misunderstand him
Those who dont know
And in the evening his love will lead the blind
In every secret corner there in your mind
Oh long time ago
He turned the world to order
Dont you know
He used to sit knowing
Oh long time ago
Where you and me were going
And in the evening his love will lead the blind

The only thing this song is insinuating is that modern Christians have moved away from Christianity's teachings. The men who crucified Jesus misunderstood him, and now the same thing is happening again, only now it's switched sides. He wanted his disciples to practice tolerance and love, but that doesn't seem to be happening lately. Gautama Buddha founded Buddhism. He was a man that valued peace and taught his followers to solve things with nonviolence, a lot like Jesus Christ. In both stanzas it says that "In the evening his love will lead the blind". I think that Cat Stevens used this to tie the two together, as both are people he obviously admires, and both are loving leaders, even to those that don't follow their religion.
thank you ska ska #4

Jesus was a man at best.

quite ironic now that he has turned to islam where jesus is not considered son of god but a prophet

"in the evening his love will lead the blind in every secret corner there in your mind" As this world winds down (evening) or even as the individual's life winds down to death, his love (God/Jesus) will open our blind eyes, answer every question, open every door and truly free us in our minds. Buddha, a man, was a seeker too just like us.
awesome singleeye, thank you and Love and Peace to you

Ska Ska.
Jesus never encouraged violence. When Peter his disciple cut off an ear of a soldier he told him off and said "When you live by the sword, you die by the sword". Just because people act violently, doesn't mean God agrees with it. He sticks to his word because he is The Word.

They all represent the movement of the sun. (son) And Cat stevens (yusuf) mentions the universe in alot of his recent interviews. So Its all the same thing. I dont believe its ironic that he wrote this and then converted to Islam. He seemed like that type anyway.

I don't think its anything ironic about how he mentions other beliefs or religion and the fact that he converted to Islam. The more important message is how the simple things we believe in are moving away from what it is, but in the end if we truly believe in such a thing it leads down the same path. Whether it be Jesus, Buddha, Allah or any spiritual figure or prophet.

Take it easy there 'Laurence'.

this song is crap... it seems like its insinuating that Jesus and Buddha are the same and if that idiot believes that garbage, then i pray for him... that's seriously gay... Jesus is the Son of the Living God... Buddha was a man... a philosopher at best...
Oh preacherman837, Jesus advocates peace, which also includes the words we use. I get you may be passionate about what you believe in but Jesus walked passively, exuberated a calmness and tranquility that people flocked to. He advised in his teaching and never disrespected anyone. He loves Yusuf, and so do I. He is not an idiot. Unfortunately when I read your vocabulary I cannot take you seriously as a preacherman. May God bless you and the Holy Spirit penetrate your heart and bring joy and tranquility to your life. Your love for...

@preacherman837 this is to peacetrain sorry Jesus never preached peace , He threw the moneychangers out of temple, He said the determined take Heaven by force (some translations say violent). When it comes to compromising God\'s word there should be no silence but uproar, This is a worldly attitude promoting worldly peace when this world is under the rulers of darkness as the song peace train says.
