Gone for Good Lyrics

I'm never going back
I'm never going back to you
I'm never gonna see you again
I'm never gonna dig out your picture
I'm never gonna look you up someday

Life is very short
And you don't love me anymore
So, I'm never gonna see you again

I'm never gonna write you a letter
'Never gonna call you on the phone

'Never gonna drive by your house
'Never gonna catch you coming outside

'Never gonna walk up your walk
And ring your bell
Feel you fall into my arms
No, I'm never gonna see you
No, I'm never gonna see you
No, I'm never gonna see you again

You're gone for good

You don't love me anymore, so I'm going to leave you alone. I'm never going to do anything to try to get you back even though I'm dying to... I accept you're gone. Perfect lyrics, perfect music, just Morphine.

Very hard to hold the tears every time I heard this part "Never gonna walk up your walk And ring your bell Feel you fall into my arms"

I've never been able to figure out if the song is implying death/suicide, or if I should take the lyrics for what they say and assume he's really moving on after the sadness of breaking up. With Sandman, it's hard to say. Either way, it's an awesome song.

@elGarzon That last verse has brought me to tears, also.

I actually think this one is much more straightforward than most of his lyrics, though I think, given his clear knowledge of how many ways there are to 'accidentally' encounter some ex lover, that this refers to someone who has passed on. There really IS no chance of an accidental or manufactured encounter. He has to face the fact that she really is "gone for good". Sadness.

Even though it's been 19 years and I in no manner feel this way any more, every time I hear this song, it briefly invokes the feelings I had after being dumped all those years ago. (empathy with the me of 19-years ago, I suppose) The lyrics and execution of the song are just perfect. The melancholy of knowing you have to move on, and just trying to convince yourself. Morphine nailed it.

Each time I remember that... it breaks my heart...ever more. Love-Fate is stronger than us. 'gonna miss you baby, somewhat... 'Never been your divinity. Farewell my sweet Lord. Ain't my bitch now. Yet be happy... I once was... And will again... ;-)
