| Placebo – Protect Me From What I Want Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about conformism in corporate America and how it's been turning us into slaves. Living between uppers and downers, alcohol (etc), to wash off a long day, coffee to wake up and try to function at work after a long night trying to forget about it. "Alone at the end of the rave, we catch the last bus home... We open the latch of the gate, of the hole we call out home." "Maybe we're victims of fate Remember when we'd celebrate We'd drink and get high until late And now we're all alone " I think this refers as how we feel when we go back to work, after a weekend (night out) or to the future. How we'll end up all alone, if we keep living the disease of the age, the disease that we crave. |

| Silvio Rodríguez – Ojalá Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I've always thought of Ojala as "ReyFula" puts it, about two people that love each other, but the circumstances obligated them to go their separate ways. So even though he wants to keep feeding the love he feels, he has to give it up, because he knows they can't be together. He adores this woman and feels that the word is going away with her. "Ojalá que las hojas no te toquen el cuerpo cuando caigan, Para que no las puedas convertir en cristal. Ojalá que la lluvia deje de ser milagro que baja por tu cuerpo, Ojalá que la luna pueda salir sin tí, Ojala que la tierra no te bese los pasos." This is the way I feel about this song, and this is what I was feeling many years ago when I got hoocked with Ojala. |

| Morphine – Gone for Good Lyrics | 18 years ago |
You don't love me anymore, so I'm going to leave you alone. I'm never going to do anything to try to get you back even though I'm dying to... I accept you're gone. Perfect lyrics, perfect music, just Morphine. Very hard to hold the tears every time I heard this part "Never gonna walk up your walk And ring your bell Feel you fall into my arms" |

| Incubus – Drive Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Don't let the future ruin your present. Uncertainty sucks, but sometimes the only way to be certain is to live and see what happens. "Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there with open arms and open eyes." It's not just about letting it be, it's about being ready for whatever is waiting for you. Definitely a song about taking control over life and stop worrying about what hasn't happened yet or might not even happen. |

| The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Praying to stop feeling the way he is. Usually the sound that recognizes my pain and cleans my mind is Morphine (or Mark Sandman by himself). "There's nobody signing to me now" he feels lonely and like he's the only one suffering. "I'm a million different people from one day to the next" His mind is so fucked up and changing so often, that he doesn't even recognizes himself anymore. |

| R.E.M. – The One I Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think he did care about the girl at some point, but then he realized that she was full of shit and gets over it. "This one goes out to the one I love This one goes out to the one I've left behind" |

| R.E.M. – Bang And Blame Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree with the version of the demanding girlfriend trying to make you feel like shit for things not done the way she was expecting them or that you didn't do and she was expecting you to do. While the guy just tries not to argue and let her fight by herself. "You bang, bang, bang, bang and bang, Blame, blame, blame You bang, bang, bang, bang and bang, It’s not my thing so let it go." But she keeps complaining until the guy has enough. "You kiss on me, tug on me, rub on me, jump on me, You bang on me, beat on me, hit on me, let go on me, You let go on me." It’s obviously about something else, but this is what I get so far… |

| Blind Melon – No Rain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
He just wants to find someone and live and bullshit free life. He has had enough of playing games (push and pull, over thinking everything before letting it out). He wants to be able to open his mind and heart without worrying about stupid prejudgments. A girl who will listen without labeling him insane, a girl who will also open his mind and heart to him. Just someone to relax and be yourself. At least that’s what I want. And I find myself constantly feeling like the little bee in the video. Looking for that right girl and the only thing that I found are faces judging me for being myself and trying to stay away from all the bullshit and pretensions from our day by day (even more in Miami). |

Summer love, maybe a vacation love with someone waiting home. Enough time to click and have great memories, not enough for it to go sour... |

| Pulp – Like A Friend Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I might be taking it too personal this time. This is about a girl that just wants to fuck up with your head. She knows you’re crazy about her and even though you know she only want to mess with you mind and you should walk away, you just can’t do it. “I’ve done this before And I will do it again Come on and kill me baby, While you smile like a friend And I’ll come running, Just to do it again” Lets get even more personal!! After you’ve told this girl that you want something serious and she has turned you down, you asked her to leave you alone. But she keeps coming back to…. who knows why the fuck she keeps coming back? “Don’t bother saying you’re sorry Why don’t you come in? Smoke all my cigarettes – again Every time I get no further How long has it been? Come on in now, WIPE YOUR FEET ON MY DREAMS” “Boourns” gets a lot of the points I wanted to make. Definitely one of my favorite songs and one of my favorite films and hopefully I can kick this habit soon. “Like a car crash I can see but I just can't avoid Like a plane I've been told I never should board Like a film that's so bad but I've gotta stay till the end Let me tell you now, It's lucky for you that we're friends.” |

| Red Hot Chili Peppers – I Could Have Lied Lyrics | 18 years ago |
First I though it was about cheating, but know I agree with the version of the guy putting his cards on the table and being rejected. So yes, I think is a song about a guy who starts getting too involved and feels the need to let her know what he’s feeling, even though he suspects that he’s the only one feeling it. “There must be something In the way I feel That she don’t want me to feel” But he can’t take it anymore and he has to play his cards the only way he knows/can, with the truth. “I could never change Just what I feel My face will never show What is not real” Then even after getting rejected and losing her, he has the fulfillment of doing the right thing. Yes, he could have lied and keep living half way with her (or living a lie, filling the expectations of what she wants him to fill, not what he really feels and is coming out of his eyes), but who wants that? After putting his cards on the table and playing with the truth, getting rejected is not completely bad, if the girl doesn’t want to be with him after he opened his heart is her fucking loss. “The sweetest feeling I got from you The things I said to you were true” He lost her, but she didn’t deserve him. And no one can take away the feeling of having done things the right way. |

| Everything but the Girl – Single Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree. It's about separation and being at that point where you have no idea what you're going to do with your life or the relationship. Then you start looking at yourself now and before. "I'm sleeping later and waking later I'm eating less and thinking more And how am I without you? Am I more myself or less myself?" She's trying to get away from the relationship, because she thinks she's becoming dependable, but she's not sure if that's good or bad. "And look at me without you I'm quite proud of myself I feel reckless, clumsy Like I'm making a mistake A really big mistake" Nothing to say about this last part, just love it. “But if no one calls and I don't speak all day Do I disappear?” |

| Supertramp – Dreamer Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think he’s calling himself a dreamer and putting the finger in the wound trying to get some motivation. He knows he has what it takes to get things done, if he finds the right balance between dreaming and building those dreams. “We’ll work it out some day If I could see something You can see anything you want boy If I could be someone- You can be anyone, celebrate boy. If I could do something- Well you can do something, If I could do anything- Well can you do something out of this world?” --I’m also a stupid little dreamer and hope I can put my hands in my head soon |

| Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song is about wealthy people in general, that have lost their fortune and start getting rejected by their friends and social circle, because they don’t have what they used to, and their struggle to live a “regular life”. But more than that, I think is an attack to the emptiness of must of the wealthy circles. “Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things But you'd better lift your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe” Then it’s about a clean bullshit free start. “When you have nothing, you got nothing to lose” |

| Peter Bjorn and John – Young Folks Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I like AndrewJG's comment, but I do think this song is about a romantic relationship. I think is about putting your cards on the table so there are no surprises once you are involved with this person. "no-one will surprise me unless you do" And probably the only way to get a good start is without any lies or hiding information (I know, I'm a stupid idealist). Past is past so lets get a good clean start without any bullshit. |

| Weezer – Island In The Sun Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Being with the person that you want to be, enjoying the perfect moment, but with regrets of something you did before (maybe when you thought you were never going to get so involved with this person). Somehow your brain starts playing with you in your best moments, trying to make you confess something that is going to kill this moment. “When you’re on a golden sea You don’t need no memory” But at least the next time you have one of this moments it will feel real, because you don’t have any regrets. “We’ll run away together We’ll spend some time forever We’ll never feel that anymore” [the need to confess, because hopefully you won’t fuck it up again] |

| The Cranberries – I Still Do Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think she had a long steady relationship that was getting boring, so she started going out with someone else without any expectations, but she go too involved. “I’m not ready for this Though I thought I would be” Then, she gets mixed feelings and she want to return to the long “safe” relationship, because she doesn’t see a future with the new affair (or is scared about feeling so much). “I can’t see the future Though I thought I could see.” The only way to give a new try to the old relationship is leaving the new guy. “”I don’t want to leave you Even though I have to.” Then even more mixed feelings. Old one? New one? Should/can I be by myself? “I don’t want to love you.” [so she can go back and be okay with the old guy] “Oh I still do” [she wants to be with the new guy, but doesn’t have the balls to leave the old relationship and start a new one with this guy, even though she feels a lot more for the new one] “Need some time to find myself” [third option and probably the best one] So I think this song is about mixed feelings and a confused girl that wants to have the best from both worlds. |

| Radiohead – Banana Co. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Anopheles has it right. This song was inspired by One Hundred Years of Solitude. But this part of the book was based on facts. "La Masacre Bananera" occurred in the late 1920's in Cienaga Colombia, where the national army paid off by The United Fruit Company killed hundreds or thousands of banana workers. http://www.columbiapoliticalreview.com/diego.htm "But everything is underground We got to dig it up somehow" Gabriel Garcia Marquez grew up hearing this story from so many people, so many times that it became almost a myth and the actual number of victims got lost somewhere in the oral tradition of the Colombian coast. "She knows [Ursula] if you die then we all do" The United Fruit Company got into the little Colombian town with promises of prosperity and wealth for its people. It became the center of all for this town, to the point that after The United Fruit Company left, the town was complete lost without a path to follow. |

| Morphine – The Saddest Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it is about a relationship full of emotions that is starting to cool down. "My first day back in town" [when I'm getting out of this rollercoaster of emotions and I'm starting to be myself again] "The clouds up above they were hummin' our song" [but stepping back brings memories from when they were starting and he couldn't get her out of his mind. This is where Intruder's comment comes in. He used to dream about her and have her in his mind all the time when they were starting (which was okay), but now he's afraid to relive all this feelings when he's trying to step back and start dreaming about her again] |
