Rise

i thought it was "dont ask me to rise". it makes more sense that way, and thats what it sounds like is being said.

This song is about a relationship where one person is really depressed and despondent (I’m assuming it’s the boy in the relationship…). But the other person (the girl) came along and tried to pull him out of his rut, but only to be dragged into it herself.

“Today I’ll crawl out of bed I can't stand your shadow is too heavy to lift”

The melancholy person’s burden is too heavy to bear, but she tries her best to be happy, suggesting fun things to do.

“Maybe we'll go for a ride”

Him, still sad says I’ll take you nowhere, the girls says she doesn’t mind, because it’s enough to be together.

“You said you'd take me nowhere I said that suits me just fine.”

She obviously likes him, and he likes her to but has never really spoken of it, but has given her signs through unsaid things. He doesn’t want her to know because he is damaged from something else in his past and doesn’t want to get hurt again.

“I know you've always been near whispering secrets I know I’m not supposed to hear hold your heart with two hands give it to me only to disappear”

The girl realizes that she can’t help him, it only makes her sad too.

“Look how low I’ve sunk”

Down into his hole, and in a strange way their sadness connects them.

“Don’t ask me to rise I’ll only lose you when I’m high”

If she suddenly became happy they would lose that connection, she would be high, and he would stay the same as always, sad. She decides to end the relationship because she thinks it will be best for both of them.

“All alone in the dark love survives only when we are apart”

She still loves him deeply and she still thinks about him. She wishes more than anything that it could work out between them, but she’s not enough to make him happy again.

”your voice still sounds in my ears soft explosions that blossom with the beat of my heart”

I like this song a lot. I always thought it was "Look how low I've sunk. Don't ask me to rise." But I'm probably wrong, though it doesn't sound like "Don't miss the arise," either.
