Overkill Lyrics

I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications
Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know will be alright
Perhaps it's just imagination

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away

I can't get get to sleep
It only beings exasperation
It's time to walk the streets
Smell the desperation
At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night
From overkill

I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications
Especially at night
I worry over situations
That I know will be alright
It's just overkill

One great song, it almost sounds as if the person is singing about being mortally afraid of the dark, fr0m past faces that still haunt her, the ghosts that appear and fade, although I doubt that I could take the easy road and say the overkill is the number of people she has killed, this just doesn't seem like the artist to write something like that, unless this is a cover?

As an anxiety sufferer - though that does seem like a dumb phrase, who ISN'T anxious sometimes in their life? - I think this is about anxiety. I've been in THIS position:

"Especially at night I worry over situations I know will be alright Perhaps it's just imagination"

Time and time again. The chorus about the ghosts sounds like things left behind; or maybe the ghost of worries, ephemeral things that don't really exist outside of her head.
