In the back of my mind, a voice speaks
Spells out the master plan
Now I know
She swings with the ease of a hammer
From the truth down through the past
And I know
What's right went wrong
From when it started
To this, the finish
I'll try to find
A place in your new life
To set the fire
And cover your tracks
Time will tell
The past laughs last
Syllables will try and judge you
Will pierce this anecdote
Now I know
Your plea is a case of ill-reason
And this deletes your alibi
And I know
Once tried, left wrong
From where it started, to here, the finish
I'll try to find
A place in your new life
The traps have been set
And this will change everything
Everything
To set the fire
And cover your tracks
Time will tell
The past laughs last
To set the fire
And cover your tracks
Time will tell
The past laughs last
Spells out the master plan
Now I know
From the truth down through the past
And I know
From when it started
To this, the finish
I'll try to find
A place in your new life
And cover your tracks
Time will tell
The past laughs last
Will pierce this anecdote
Now I know
And this deletes your alibi
And I know
From where it started, to here, the finish
I'll try to find
A place in your new life
And this will change everything
Everything
And cover your tracks
Time will tell
The past laughs last
And cover your tracks
Time will tell
The past laughs last

Please feel free to make any corrections, it is late and i am tired.
why don't they give the lyrics in the cd booklet? confused.
Err apparently the original pressings of the album excluded these lyrics, so hang on to yours, it might be worth a bit. Later copies should include these lyrics.
It explains it on the faq section on thier site.
"That was, strangely enough, a mistake. This is only on the US version. It will be added to the 2nd pressing."
The also posted the lyrics there.
This is my fav. Sparta song. I'm havin trouble gettin into the Mars Volta...point me in the right direction peeps. I don't hate em, just haven't had anything stick yet...like Sparta with this song and Air.
I think this was written when his girlfriend broke up with him due to everything that built up to that point. It sounds like he wanted to overlook things that had happened in the past, but the past came back to haunt him.
There were only two errors I spotted in the above lyrics.

Great Song!
This song is simply amazing. It's the one that got me hooked on Sparta and remains one of my favorites. Anyway, I think it's about this girl who has become a different person. "I'll try to find to find a place in your new life" may refer to him trying to be a part of this girl's new persona or whatever. And the chorus is talking about how she tries to hide who she used to be with "cover your tracks" and such. I don't know, I may be off but that's what I think. Great song. Love the part where the second guitar kicks in.
Somekid i believe you might be right. It seems like alot of Wiretap Scars has been written about the break-up of a girl,it must have played a big part in Jims life, but who knows we could all be wrong....only Sparta knows...Anyways this song kicks ass.
yeah these lyrics are a lot more easy to interpret than the other stuff altho these are mysterious too..def my fav sparta song. the beginning played at full blast on headphones gives me such an amazing feeling. almost reminds me of at the drive-in's pattern against user, though i can't pinpoint why.
This song is, to me, about the end of a relationship, and a man's attempt to erase a woman from his life, including his memory.
His 'Red Alibi,' fire, is burning her out of his life, erasing her tracks..
I also think the allusion to her as a criminal is a way of communicating how he thinks she has done wrongs to him.
