Not Tonight Lyrics
love pull your sore ribs in
I will pull your tangles out
in the back of your car I feel like
I have traveled nowhere
what will bring me home
what will make me stay, stay
what will bring me home
what will make me stay, stay
I don't know, ooh
I don't know
I don't know, ooh
everything in my body says not tonight
everytthing in my body says no
everything in my body says not tonight
everything in my body says no
what will bring me home
what will make me stay, stay
what will bring me home
what will make me stay, stay
well I don't know
I don't know, ooh
I don't know
I don't know, ooh
I will pull your tangles out
in the back of your car I feel like
I have traveled nowhere
what will bring me home
what will make me stay, stay
what will bring me home
what will make me stay, stay
I don't know, ooh
I don't know
I don't know, ooh
everything in my body says not tonight
everytthing in my body says no
everything in my body says not tonight
everything in my body says no
what will bring me home
what will make me stay, stay
what will bring me home
what will make me stay, stay
well I don't know
I don't know, ooh
I don't know
I don't know, ooh

i always kind of thought this song was about virginity and i don't know why.
I always felt this song was about not feeling ready to have sex with one's lover; to Sara (and Tegan), it could mean feeling uncomfortable about having to sleep with her boyfriend at the time and being trapped in a heterosexual relationship.
I love the beat, and I really liked it when it was on Grey's Anatomy. Now I'm hooked to it. I wonder why no one else commented...
this song is amazing. "love pull your sore ribs in" it's so brilliant!
this song is beautiful. one of my favorites.
simply beautiful song. instantly one of my favorites. & the first 2 lines; amazing.
repeat of these lines in TERRIBLE STORM & THIS. "in the back of your car i feel like i have traveled no where..." ?
Yeah... in noticed that too 'spill the ink', which kinda sucked a little for me.
T&S are fab, they're such brilliant song writers, but then to find the same line in two songs seemed a bit... stingey... I dunno... maybe it's got some important lyrical reason behind it... like the subject of this song is the same as that in terrible storm, perhaps. But still... :(
Great song, as long as I ignore that line.
p.s. I squealed when it came on Gray's Anatomy!
I really don't think there's anything wrong with the repetition of the line considering Sara wrote both songs about the same thing. It just links them. She said in one of the videos on youtube that she wrote them both as a response to a book by John Irving.
Yep the book was The Hotel New Hampshire... Loving it!
I think I heard somewhere that this song is about being gay but in a straight relationship and the lines "in the back of your car I feel like I have traveled nowhere" I think that shows that it's a dead end relationship and the words "everything in my body says not tonight" speak for themself. This is a beautifyul song
