Try, Try, Try (Machina II version) Lyrics
pop tart
what's the matter
did you lose what you're after
for your tears I'm still singing
for your fears I am ringing
from Houston on a downer buzz
like you said it's
just because we'll detonate your long lost kisses
wished on the ear of forgotten blesses
start your way for some new impression
try to hold on
for this heart a little bit stronger
try to hold on
to this love alone
try to hold on
for this heart's never been broken
so try to hold on
try to hold on
pop tart
did you flatter
when they spoke
of my disasters
at thirteen I lost my compass
but I'm sure it's all accomplished
as desires burn my ghost trains
like you said
when it rains it pours down the back of a bitter sun
desperate for love and loves everyone
in my mother's arms no simple harm
conspires to hold on
for this heart
a little bit closer
try to hold on
to this love alone
try to hold on
and we know if we go under
we just can't let go
no no
pop tart
will it matter
if I lose and just shatter
will you cry and keep crying will I die and keep dying in Tokyo with sad tragic blues like you said it's how you use, cause someday we'll know if this even matters
our rings and maze and simplicity
when can we laugh and take all the credit
and know we'll go free
with our hearts a little bit stronger
try to hold on
to this love alone
try to hold on
for this heart's a little bit frightened
just try to hold on
just try to hold on
just try
what's the matter
did you lose what you're after

its obviously a simpler version, which is probably why it was never a release or on an album (we all know how billy liked to be complex and layer guitar over guitar over guitar). but its amazing. the lyrics are so much better. "when can we laugh and take all the credit and know we'll go free" awesome
I like this version better than the other one...
as do i...it has a better feel to it...it's not as cold.
I prefer this version... althought they are both excellent.
does anyone else have Machina II? i was lucky enough to get a copy..its brilliant
I kind of view this as the 2nd half of the first try try try. If you've seen the video, their in a hospital or something, and for some reason the high pitched instrument (is it maybe accordion?) reminds me of a heartbeat monitor (maybe I'm crazy though) so I think of maybe the guy in the video just deciding to try to honestly fix things. IDK, but it still brings me to that when I hear this song. This is brilliant though, kinda rings back to the almost hippie feel the pumpkins had early in their career. This song is awesome.
I like this version better just because I can relate more to "Pop tart, what's the matter, did you lose what you're after?"
lyrics seem a bit more pushed then the "machines of god" version, seems like Billy is trying a bit too hard to get the story across. I love it, but the lyrics just arent as relaxed as version 1.
fair comment joeli, but perhaps billy's priority in this version was the story/point to the song as opposed to making it sound all smooth and "nice"? both versions are wonderful though, im sure we'll all maintain:-)
This version is way better. I also love how, as opposed to the Machina version, it actually fits with the concept, or at least carries some of its themes (most notably "Pop tart/will it matter/if I lose/and just shatter"). I always assumed Billy was referring to God when he said "pop tart". I can't prove it, and I know that there's no real connection between God and a pop tart, but the lyrics seem to relate to Glass questioning God, and therefore his entire life.
