Cassette, Road Trip, Grand Canyon Lyrics

I hear the cry-out as the car came to a stop and mix up panic then relief on the edge of the grand canyon
Ten seconds later still sitting frozen we burst into fucking killer laughter
I couldn't catch my breath forever

and then it hit me, hey can you play that tape back
i yi yi can't believe that it was rolling
listen to the sound, of our commentary
that we kept yelling out screeching we'll silence hell

that three week road trip was a road trip and a half maybe more
captured on one roll of film out of focus pictures bore
every national monument every tourist trap across the 48 states
that fell within our path

and then it hit me, hey can you play that tape back
i yi yi can't believe that it was rolling
listen to the sound, of your commentary
life at all man please shut up
ive heard way more then enough

by my count it all ended 17 cassettte tapes later
stupid braindead observations said we were much too clever
to know that we were having the time of our lives
now years later those cassettes drive me to cry

and then it hit me hey can you play that tape back
i yi yi can't believe that it was rolling
listen to the sound of our commentary
recording our lives ourselves
im glad i have them now

Okay, uhh. I thought "that we kept yelling out screeching we'll silence hell" was "That we kept yelling out, screeching wheels, silence, howls." Perhaps I'm wrong..?

Anyways. I love this song. The meaning of the song is pretty explanitory; Two people driving along the US, recording commentries in cassette tapes.
