That's The Punch Line Lyrics

I know, that you're superstitious.
That you follow glamour,
You're so caught up, they push you around, and up and down.
Because I see, it's easy to be so blind.
When you say remember his face.
It's not so bad I say it cause it's true.
That's the change of style, you're eccentric when you smile.
That's the change of style, we could catch you but you're always changing.

That's the punch line, that's the way it should be,
And that's the last time you'll ever hear it from me.
That's the punch line.

How come in all of your fashion,
Magazines and people, they always look so mean?
I know, I know I'm down.
And I'm rollin' over, I'm sick of that cynical kind of humor.
Remember this world, it's not so bad, it's coming off of you.

That's the punch line, that's the way it should be.
And that's the last time you'll ever hear it from me.
That's the punch line.

That's the change of style, you're eccentric when you smile.
That's the change of style, when we laugh it's cause we're laughing with you.

I think that he is mocking the industry on they are so caught up on image and everything else shallow. People become so mesmerized by the false images that are constantly thrown at us, that they believe that things are much more grand than what they really are. When he says, 'That's the punchline' he is sarcastically pointing out that that we've been had (he..he). There's nothing more beneath the paper thin surface. Sort of like when you're waiting to hear a great ending to a joke was intended to be very funny...instead it just falls flat and leaves you asking, "IS THAT ALL??!!"

I believe it's:

"...Remember this world, it's not so bad it's kind enough to...you."

So, models, entertainers, why do you look so sour and dolorous?

I agree with ophelia, but also, they may be mocking the industry that hyped them up as the "next big thing" in the early/mid ninties, when some members were Johnathan Fire*Eater

So bloody true! Why do models always look like they're pissed off? "Smile" or "Laugh" or do something happy.

I think this song is about people who follow fashion trends religiously and let the fucking idiots behind entertainment magazines and gossip rags tell you that all these trivial things are quite important when you should know they aren't. And I think he's trying to let the person he's speaking to know that they're becoming a joke, and we're laughing with you right now but you are becoming the joke.

Bottom line: DON'T Date girls who are into fashion...THEY SUCK.

What I interpret here is that when people treat her unkindly, it's because of her own negative attitude and the mean-faced models she emulates in her quest to look attractive. She is the source of the stink she's always complaining about. That's the punchline.

"That's the change of style, you're eccentric when you smile."

He's saying that the coolest most fashionable thing she can do is smile and be her quirky self, because people respond to that.
