After an Afternoon Lyrics
I bare my windowed self untamed and untrained
Dreams that hardly touch our complexions truest faults
If room enough for both my drowsy spirit shall fall
Bold waves tumble to the season of my heart
Where you have offended my faith and my trust
Until all is lost into the beauty of the day
But there's something in the way you laugh
That makes me feel like a child
Aspects of life they confuse me
You and your thesis amuse me
After an afternoon with you
And your rich brown eyes
Your lips and dark hair
Elbows and exposed knees tossing toward the ceiling
After an afternoon
Face to palm
Tear to tear
Mouth to tongue
Heart to ground
I am in love
Dreams that hardly touch our complexions truest faults
If room enough for both my drowsy spirit shall fall
Bold waves tumble to the season of my heart
Where you have offended my faith and my trust
Until all is lost into the beauty of the day
That makes me feel like a child
Aspects of life they confuse me
You and your thesis amuse me
And your rich brown eyes
Your lips and dark hair
Elbows and exposed knees tossing toward the ceiling
After an afternoon
Tear to tear
Mouth to tongue
Heart to ground
I am in love

Hey dude, I reckon you're spot on. This guy and I could completely relate to this song. Call it our themesong, or whatever. Lol. But anyway, I think Mraz isn't implying that it's impossible to get her perse, but more, it's impossible for them to be together. They have a history they can't let go of. The memories of them together still remain. And even though they're trying a different path (because she had offended his faith and trust); nothing seems to change. Despite that, she still completes him. There is a part of him that is only exposed when he's with her. Yes. That's my take. :P
I've read that Mraz wrote this song for Tristan Prettyman and it's a little obvious, " your rich brown eyes, your lips and your dark hair." She has all of those physical characterisitics. I think it's cool that Mraz writes so easily about the hapennings in his life, but he writes with a lot of care and he even says " I contradict myself" He seems to take a lot of time and thought into his words. With him the tune is not likely to be the important part of the song. For me his words and voice are enough for a great song, but when words and the melody both are great in his songs the outcome is magic.
It seems to me like he's spent an afternoon with someone he loves but then something comes in between then. He's thinking back onto that afternoon and he remembers that something offended him, yet he also remembers that something made him laugh and feel like a child. I don't know, thats what I think.

i think hes afraid to be with someone, he thinks its impossible that she would ever like him, and it makes him upset, he goes for her, gets her, but she offends him..but he still likes her because theres something about her that brings back his childhood...but then their together and loving each other but i dont get that because...well i just dont get this can someone explain?
