Not sure about it but I'm thinking this is about (or at least includes) the birth of Christianity, and moreover, monotheism. The "symbols" are runes and markers of pagan religions, representing simple natural phenomena like the Sun and snow. Also, the lyrics above are incomplete, but the "blood feast for a sage" lyric could refer to the blood shed during the time of Christ (the sage.)

Then again, it could just be another relationship song with typical DiJ imagery.

My interpretation of the meaning of this song is very grim for humans. All through history Sun symbols like one used recently by Hitler - the swastika (ancient sun symbol)...and many sun god/sun symbols have been associated with mass human sacrifice (Sun cross/Cross). have been used before in mass human sacrifice, Mithra, Jesus etc etc and other names for the Sun. Where the symbols goes, a pattern of mass human sacrifices occur ('blood feast for a sage') They have taken many facades or excuses but end up happening age to age all the same....why.. dunno. The sun symbol and Mithra's name is buried deeply in this human psyche.

My Interpretation
