Left Lyrics

I saw the river, just pulled him down
I knew the man who hunted him down
We watched the river, take him away
Before he died, I could have sworn he said
I am the only one
I am the only one left

Tired and afraid lies a saddened man
Knelt beside him with head in hand
And escaped on a lonely breath
But before he died I could have sworn he said

I am the only one
I am the only one left
Who ever gave a damn about you
I am sorry
I am sorry
I was wrong
I was wrong
I've been wrong for way too long
I am sorry that you're gone

i agree with pusher, but i want to add that i think that, by the lines; "I knew the man who hunted him down" and "I am sorry, I am sorry, I was wrong, I was wrong/ I've been wrong for way too long/I am sorry that you're gone" also implies that he had something to do with the death and feels guilty about it. Either that he helped to have the man killed or he didn't prevent it when he knew he could have. Perhaps the man was someone close to him with whom he had long-term problems with, like a father or brother. He may have been angry about something in the past so he either arranged to have this person killed, or saw him dying/in danger and didn't do anything to prevent it out of that grudge he was holding and then realized after he was dead that that person really did love him and try to do what was best for him.
