Cowboy Hat Lyrics
Yes he wore a cowboy hat
Each bone broken in his back
All the money and all the gold
Couldn't buy my love at 8 years old
Now I'm in love with a girl thats wrong for me
Ask her, she will disagree
Her father was a small time man
With small time dreams and small time hands
But
But I was there when there was nobody home
Please believe me when i say i dunno
Gone for good in fact but what does it mean
Within a year they always sold and bought
Easy enough to just look at her
Whole world on a silver platter
Was that that bad for me
If I was there the scotch is free
Won round one but its not over
He don't care cause he don't know her
True love is not the same
If I could lend a hand in shame
But I was there when there was nobody home
Please believe me when i say i dunno
Gone for good infact but what does it mean
Within a year they always sold and bought
If I was big
So much easier to see
Don't hide from me
That which I've already seen
You lie to me
More than occasionally
Don't lie to me
You lied to me
I'm as high as I'll ever be
I don't mind, Stay and see
They've all gone, Why don't we
Holding hands, you and me
But I'm as high as i'll ever be
But later on, lies to see
My past is gone, only from me
I'm alive
But I was there when there was nobody home
Please belirve me when I say I dunno
Gone for good infact but what does it mean
Within a year they always sold and bought
Remember when it was me
Driving come down just for me
And then we'll try as we've been
Each bone broken in his back
All the money and all the gold
Couldn't buy my love at 8 years old

why the hell hasn't anyone commented on this song? i think it kicks ass...
I do too! I love the end when they sing in a high voice....very sexy:-) This song isn't so hard to interpret. It's about his dad not really being there when he grew up. And he tried to buy him off, I guess you could say that. "All the money and all the gold, couldn't buy my love at 8 years old." But anyway, they're the best fuckin band! I love every song.
every song is awesome except for fly. its crap

That part just makes my heart drop. This song is awesome. It reminds me a lot of this one girl I'm currently talkin to.
currenyly talkin 2 lol u mean datin right nyways this song rocks but i tink only the 1st is about his dad the 2nd verse is about some girl who seems to be a slag basically
Let me re-elaborate this song is about chads life the first verse refers to how his father always let him down as a child and always tried to buy back his respect.
The second half of the first verse and may be the rest of the song refers to most- likely be a girlfriend whom of which he has relationship problems with but how they try to get through them anyway "and then we'll try as we've always been"
i think this song is about how hes always had to work for what he got and wasnt handd to him and this girl has had everything handed to her and she wants to be with him cuz hes a bad boy correct me if im wrong or tell me your views!
I agree to disagree with everyone. I think the lyrics posted are not 100 percent correct.
I think this song is about his father's relationship with women over the course of his childhood and him looking back on it now to an extent. I believe the main message of the song is about his relationship with his father. It sounds to me like he loved one in particular but his father didn't really know her because he stayed drunk. (likely his mom) I think he grew to envy the women his father brought home. This is where the line "Easy enough to just look at her whole world on a silver platter" comes in. He then goes on to talking about lending a hand in shame. Talking about himself because he was alive he couldn't be hidden from new women.I think toward the end he is speaking to his father. All the women are now gone because his father is old and it gets harder to pick up random women as you grow older. He is trying to put the past behind them and move forward holding hands. Because he probably now drinks to. I would have to know more about his life to say anymore. I can't tell if his father is dead or still alive. But that is my thought on this song. I don't think it has as much to do with women as it does about his relationship to his father.
Small time I think is small town
The phrase Whole world on a silver platter Was that that bad for me If I was there the scotch is free
should be Whole world on a silver platter What's that? Is that for me? If I would set his concience free.
I also think the last line is We'll never try as we bleed.
(meaning we will never try to change as we are still alive)
The last line could also be we'll never try as we breathe. Carrying the same message as bleed. I am not 100 percent sure which it is.
The other songs on the album suggest that his father was always in and out of jail etc. So it could be the opposite as I stated above. He could have lived with his mom through all of it. Then the times when his father was out of jail he could have tried to buy him things to make himself feel better for not always being around because he was in jail. His father then could have questioned him about what his mom was doing while he was in jail.
