Q&A

Blackjaw Lyrics

Can you sing me a song about digging?
Oh, I can sing while I'm breaking my back.
Can you tell me how you get out of hell?
One limb at a time.
Can you make it back home?
I can't. Last another day in the hole. I will.
Can you tell me how?
Just what are you working for?

Can you sing me the song of your lifetime?
I'll sing for my family as hard as sing for you.
You stay in the hole as long as your father stayed in,
'til I can't breathe a breath.
What's the going rate
Who knows? On industrial slavery these days? It pays.
How much do they pay you
To dig your own grave?

There's no hope. Can't get up.
In the hole, with the walls caving in on you.

This song is sadly more apropos than ever. It perfectly describes the feeling of being lower middle class, futilely slaving away for too long for not enough money and being unable to provide your children with a better life than you had. It sucks.
