The way this song speaks to me🥺🥺when I sing it I feel like I relate
Restless soul, enjoy your youth
Like Muhammad hits the truth
Can't escape from the common rule
If you hate something, don't you do it too (too)
Small, my table, sits just two
Got so crowded, I can't make room
Oh, where did they come from?
Stormed my room
And you dare say it belongs to you, to you
This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, not for you, not you
Scream, my friends don't call me
Friends, they don't scream
My friends don't call, my friends don't-
All that's sacred comes from youth
Dedications, naive and true
With no power, nothing to do
I still remember, why don't you, don't you?
This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, never was for you, fuck you
This is not for you
Oh, this is not for you, yeah, you
This is not for you
Oh, not for you
Oh, you
Like Muhammad hits the truth
Can't escape from the common rule
If you hate something, don't you do it too (too)
Small, my table, sits just two
Got so crowded, I can't make room
Oh, where did they come from?
Stormed my room
And you dare say it belongs to you, to you
This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, not for you, not you
Scream, my friends don't call me
Friends, they don't scream
My friends don't call, my friends don't-
All that's sacred comes from youth
Dedications, naive and true
With no power, nothing to do
I still remember, why don't you, don't you?
This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, never was for you, fuck you
This is not for you
Oh, this is not for you, yeah, you
This is not for you
Oh, not for you
Oh, you

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
It drives me crazy, on occasions, that Pearl Jam doesn't what songs are actually referring too. I like the idea that each song can be "unique" for each person, I would just like to know what is their "uniqueness" in it. My "uniqueness", verse by verse (how else...).
Restless soul, enjoy your youth.
Like Muhammad. Hits the truth.
Can't escape from the common rule - if you hate something don't you do it too.
Small my table. A-sits just two.
Got so crowded. I can't make room. Oh where did they come from? Stormed my room.
And you dare say it belongs to you. To you.
This is not for you.
My friends call me Ed, they call me. My friends they don't scream. My friends don't call. My friends don't.
All that's sacred comes from youth. Dedication. Naive and true. With no power. Nothing to do.
I still remember. Why don't you? Don't you?
This is not for you. Never was for you. Fuck you. This is not for you.
By chance are you handing out the same punch Jim Jones made? Such a negative view of wisdom and maturity from age, hard work, wisdom, and experience but such a positive view of youth. Maybe I emerged from another planet, but youth to me equals carelessness; idealism to the point of being laughable; drunkness; shallowness; self-centeredness...people who want instant gratification; whine at the littliest of problems; are consumed with their own superficial needs; worship the self, money, power, fame, and status symbols; handle their problems with booze, drugs, easy sex, and other bandaids; leech off others (ie parents and friends); waste inordinate amounts of time on trivial matters such as technological gadgets; spend money on plastic frivolities such as hair, nails; and designer clothing, and expect to be handed the world all the while often ignoring the needs of those less fortunate. I like the song, but your interpretation really wreaks donkey doo.
And, yes, I was generalizing just as YOU did (do)
